Join the Airstream Club?

We are wondering about joining the Wally Byam Airsteam Club? Is this beneficial? We are new to the Airstream community...will be picking up our 2017 International Signature in March. Any advice would be appreciated!

Welcome to Air Forums. You've come to the right place for all things Airstream.

Take time to learn to use the search tool to find information that is likely to have been discussed in the past. You'll find a wealth of information already exists on your question and more.

We are members of WBCCI and think it's a very useful club.

We are WBCCI members and enjoy it. I would advise you to contact your local club and see if you can attend an event or rally to better gauge if you would like it. Many state Units have information on line with contacts to club members for you to talk to. Our MN Unit is laid back and fun, members are very welcoming.

Welcome to the forum!

Here is an earlier thread:

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f286...ub-153191.html

where many issues are discussed, including the renaming of the WBAC from the WBCCI.

Good luck!

Peter

PS -- Once you open that thread, you can "bounce up" in the organizational structure here, and peruse the many other threads in the WBCCI sub-forum:

Why not give it a try. Go to a rally with other Airstreamers and decide if you like it. With over 6,000 families belonging to over 120 Units there are plenty of events to choose from.

To me the #1 benefit of club membership has been the friends I have made.

Should you join WBCCI? Yes, it is part of the AS experience.

The organization appears to be changing some. It's not as formal and constrained as it once was and new ideas are being promoted. You may not find it perfect for you, but we like our local unit. We like the big red numbers. We like other WBCCI members telling us about their experiences, providing advice, and encouraging us to try new things. Your new coach is a window into a set of new life experiences. The WBCCI is one of them. Give it a try. Contact your local unit. If it's not a fit, check out other units. National rally events and caravans may prove interesting and they are an excellent opportunity to make a few new friends.

Good luck with your investigation. Hope to meet you down the road. Pat

May or may not be beneficial, but it is fun!
I joined to go to Mississippi Unit rallies and to get the iconic big red numbers on my trailer.
That is a vital part of owning an Airstream trailer for me.

We are members of WBCCI, in both our local unit and two others as affiliates and the national Vintage inter-club as well. This gives us multiple options each month for places to go and rallies to attend.

I would suggest attending rallies with several groups near where you are located and look for the unit you like the best as your base unit and join the others as affiliates.

We joined and we're glad we did!

We joined . . . and after attending the Balloon Fiesta Rally we are convinced we made a great decision. We met fun people and learned a lot about Airsteaming and where else to go and things not to be west while on our South West AS adventure.

Joining WBCCI

We have been members since 1985 and have thoroughly enjoyed it! Check out the unit locations on the web site WBCCI.org and see which might be the closest to your location. I am the membership chairman for the Kansas City MO Unit since you are close to the Colorado line a unit in Colorado might be easier for you to join. We would welcome you if you would like to join our unit though. All the unit information is on the membership application which you should find on the web site.

We joined in 2009 when we bought our 1990 Excella, and we have enjoyed the rallies, local, regional and international. We are signed up for some caravans, but they are popular and so we are on a wait list. belonging is not all that expensive, and you learn so much, develop friendships, and if you want, can volunteer to help. Some areas have multiple local units, so check this out and see which one might be most right for you for a first try. If you try it for a couple of years and that local unit just doesn't fit you, you can switch to another. You can also join other local unit as associate members. The more time you have for Airstreaming the more time you will want to Airstream. Travel well and see you down the road.

My wife and I looked at the WBCCI when we bought our trailer in 2014. What we saw seemed stilted and old fashioned. And that unit hadn't updated a newsletter in 4 years. We passed.

A couple of years later we heard about the 4CU (4 Corners Unit) and it looked like exactly what we wanted. We joined and have had a fabulous time.

What I have learned since is that like any volunteer activity, some folks try hard to split their time between working and playing, but don't succeed. We assumed that since the local unit had not updated their website/newsletter in four years, they weren't doing anything. This was not the case, but I think it was a logical assumption at the time.

Like others have said, go as a guest first and try it out. See if your local unit is active. If not, you can join a different unit where the folks are doing things you are interested in. If you travel a lot and potentially spend time in the area where a very active unit operates, you will have a great time. The first step is to investigate, but give it a fair shot or you may miss a great opportunity.

We are not joiners but decided to give it a go. We have enjoyed it so far. Nice people. We do not attend many rallies but that's our choice. There's no pressure. We also chose to put the big red letters on a piece of plexiglass and display it outside our rig. Works well for us. Also the cost to join is more than reasonable so we don't feel overly obligated. The group does offer some amazing opportunities.
Good luck.
