Just an idea
I agree with Rick, I can see the budget committee just saying we need a dues increase to take care of the $45,000.00 I also agree that the IBT seems to be progressive in looking at what the members want and need and open to ideas, they are not a rubber stamp IBT.
In saying that I think we at this forum can work on idea's to reduce the overhead at headquarters so they don't have to raise dues. I do know from personnel experience that the EC and IBT members do know what we are saying here on this forum.
Since they are going to automatic renewal they can add a check box for a members wanting to op out of a print directory. Hugh saving as most members will op for the electronic version. I know our units membership of over 150 members, only 6 get the paper version. They could also add a check box for the BB. I bet both of these cost the club $10.00 or more a year to send to us in printing and postage. I do also believe VERY STRONGLY that we need to continue to send the paper version to those that want it. As membership chair of the VAC I use my membership directory along with 2 computers when I'm working on membership, but prior I would have been more then happy with a electronic directory for my trailer. Many units are reducing their dues because of these cost saving measures and I'm sure headquarters can too.
WBCCI could have every staff member take 2 furlough days a month. It is what business and governments do now to keep everyone working.
Add any other idea's you have and lets make sure our regions presidents and International officers know we are brain storming to help them improve the club and keep dues as they are.
Just an idea from a member.

As a Government employee, I can tell you with certainty that furlough days solve nothing. If there is work to be done, furlough days mean that the work piles up on the enforced days off, and has to be done later on overtime to get caught up.
For people working five-day weeks, that's 260 paid work-days a year. Cutting that down by 24 work-days per year (two furlough days a month) is a 9% pay cut. Anywhere except the Government, if you tell someone that you're forcing them to take a mandatory 9% pay cut, they'll tell you where to stuff that job sideways, and go to work for someone who will pay them a living wage. Then you'll have no employees at all!
It would be different if the workers in question volunteered to take a cut in pay or work hours. But forcing it on them should not even be considered by anyone who wants to keep a productive workforce.

As a now proud to say Charter member of the Southeastern Camping Unit, I would like to express my gratitude to the IBT for approving both our unit charter and our unit flag.

Congratulations to the Southeastern camping unit, and I'm sure your club will be very successful, I have notice that clubs that take the attitude of fun, friends and adventure and only enough structure to keep the IRS and insurance happy are the most successful and fun clubs in the WB. We hope to get to the east coast next year and will plan on attending one of your rally's .

These are just idea's, and I'm sure you may be right, volunteering is the best, but JC is a very small town and jobs that pay well are at a premium. This would hopefully only be temporary until membership and tech would improve the cash flow. I live in a seasonal tourist area and this is what happens every year, we just have not called it furlough days. We don't know the work load but they have had 4 employees for years, when membership was much larger.

We drove from Rayne to Topsail and enjoyed meeting friends and members of the newest unit, SE camping at Canopener.
Yes, the members of the IBT are now taking a proactive role in the management of our club. There will be improved and cost saving as the new database is implemented. For instance, publication cost of BB is budgeted at $59,000 and mailing is $35,000. Cost savings are there as folks decide to read BB online
In addition more members improve the income. Region 3 has 202 more members than same time last year. The job now is to keep them while continuing to get new members.
Also, the IBT sent the message that we are listening to our members and working to improve our club!

Jay,
I would elect to receive the Blue Beret online, however as a unit officer, I want to see the list of new members. If headquarters would email the new member list to the unit and region officers, I would change my subscription from hard copy to electronic.

Currently, we prefer to have it as hard copy because we keep copies around to give to prospective members here. However, once we're finished here, we'll definitely switch to e-copy, saving some club money.
If the e-copy doesn't include the new members list, then that should surely be added to some kind of constant-contact e-distribution to members or at least to officers. Or maybe just distribute to newsletter editors in a format that can easily be reprinted there instead of in the more expensive BB?

The list of new members is sent very month to the region officers, then I send a welcome letter to the new member and their unit president. Since I write a monthly (almost monthly) newsletter, I think I will start to list the new members and their unit. The newsletter goes to the 850+ folks in R-3 who have emails. Total membership in R-3 is around 1050.
We also receive the list of folks buying rigs and that list is sent to the unit membership chairman and to the membership encouraging folks to contact the new buyers if their location is close, or whatever.

Good info, Jay!
Say, I wonder ... if e-newsletters are being used, I wonder if an exchange of newsletters across unit editors might be welcomed?

Jay,
Does the list you receive include all new members regardless of region and MAL status or just for your region?

Thanks Jay, Even if 1/2 of our members would take the option of on-line BB, that would take care of the $45,000.00 needed to balance the budget. Members are excited about the attitude of this new IBT.

Damon,
Thank you, I think that is the first time the actual minutes have been made available to the membership.
However the spreadsheet supporting the voting on motions referenced in the minutes was not included.
