Insurance

We'll have our 2016 AS in about 2 weeks so its time to shop insurance. I've gotten quotes from 3 insurers, all being over $1000 per year. My auto policy is with Allstate so I called them last to see what they offer. They say they will add my AS to my auto policy for around $700 per year, with a $500 deductible. Sounds great, but the details are in the fine print, but they say if it burns to the ground or is totaled it will be replaced. Does anyone any experience with Allstate and travel trailers?

Just did the insurance thing …. worked with Farm and City contact thru Blue Beret ad…they set me up with Progressive and an Agreed Value policy…might want to check with them..My regular auto insurer was expensive with rates set on what the unit cost new, but when it came to claims there was a major depreciation you had to deal with…

Good questions, since we will (soon) be Airstream owners. We have the Foretravel insured with one company and the Jeep with another, based on advice we received from other Foretravel owners. The thought was that if you have a claim on one vehicle it won't affect the rates on the other. Not sure whether that is really true, since we have had very few claims on anything.

We're full-timers, so no S&B to tie the coach to. Is the general custom to insure the Airstream and truck with the same company? The Jeep is insured with State Farm, and we've been with them forever. Guess I should ask our agent.

Just a reminder to all insurance shoppers. Be sure to check all of the discounts they offer. Some companies offer a Good Sam discount, for example. If you can save even $100 a year on insurance for the price of Good Sam membership, it's worth it.

Insurance varies from state to state due to rules and regulations. What I pay in Colorado for my AS has absolutely no relation to what an owner in Florida might pay. Too, if you have an umbrella policy on your home and vehicles, chances are pretty good that that coverage will not extend to your Airstream if you insure it with a different company.

Just paid my bill for a 2013 AS trailer. It was about $240 through USAA / Progressive. Has a pretty high deductible though. Just hope I never need it.

Trust me, the insurance company hopes you never need it, even more than you do!
