I just spoke with Ron at South Jersey RV. His wife, Linda, was down in Texas for the IBT vote on the WBCCI name change. The long story short is that the vote has been referred back down to the delegates, to be voted on in Salem. For now, the WBCCI name stays.

Does that mean that the IBT approved the AOAI name and sent that back to the delegates to have their local units take a vote on that name in the spring? Then those results are to be brought back to international for a final tally?
I was under the impression that the only thing that could have happened at the IBT was that the IBT either accepted AOAI (and passed that back down from delegates to units) or that the IBT would reject AOAI and have the task force come up with another name.
On the last day of voting here I asked that poll to be closed so it would come to and end. Those that haven't seen the final results can find it here...
No, the AOAI name change was not approved, because there were several names proposed at the IBT meeting, not just AOAI. Some of those names were not on the original name change proposal, so it's going back to the delegates, and they'll decide what's going to be done, at the Salem Rally. Ron is going to have Linda email me with the specifics, and I'll post what she told me then.
I'm not getting my hopes up -- I was for sure this was the end (in more ways than one). I really believe this whole thing should just be trashed. I'm thinking the only way to squash it at this point is to do a letter writing campaign to the entire membership. I think that would stop it in its tracks. That's roughly $3,200.00 (8,000 x .40 stamp) -- but probably money well spent.
You know what? Let's wait and see what the minutes of the meeting look like, but I'm in at the 8 member level. I think I'm ticked off $400 worth. Hell I'm ticked off a lot more than that, but I don't want to foot the bill on this either.
I don't think it's reasonable to find more than 16 people to put their money where their mouth is, but 8 might be doable. Heck, we could always take $5 donations towards the cause if need be. Collect names and membership numbers to put at the bottom of a fairly civil letter.
Maybe we can produce a limited edition sticker for every $10 donation? It's the "Wally Byam Caravan Club Stupid" or something along those lines.
Personally, I don't think I want to settle for less than the name staying exactly as it has been, unless of course there are those in favor of putting it back to what it was -- dropping International is fine by me -- the WBCC IS the way it was. Maybe that should be the new name.
I don't have any problem with the club adding whatever it wants for a tag line -- that's a non-issue in my book.

I attended the IBT rally in Anthony, Texas and was present during the entire meeting. The IBT voted to submit the name Airstream Owners' Association International, Incorporated to the unit delegates for a yes or no vote at the annual delegates' meeting on 30 June 2006 at the International Rally in Salem Oregon. The IBT amended the original proposal from committee to include the word "International".
Each WBCCI Unit authorizes a delegate and that person casts the unit's members' votes for and against at the delegates' meeting. In essence, this means that the members will be deciding if they want to change the name to Airstream Owners' Association International, Incorporated .
Also presented to the delegates will be a logo similar to the current logo with an Airstream trailer and the full name in a circle around it. It is similar to our current logo in design and color.
The information on the proposed name change and proposed logo will be sent to each Unit President. If you are a member of a WBCCI unit, make sure members of your unit vote on these two issues. If you are a member-at-large, join a unit so you can vote!
It does indeed, Phred. Thank you for the clarification, as Linda never got back to me. I must say, though, that this name sounds even dumber than the first proposal. You can be assured that I am voting no.
Thanks Leo. Great job on the graphics. You rock! If you decide to make stickers put us down for a couple dozen. We'll pass them out to all of our Airstreamin' friends.
With regards to the letter campaign, we're in at the $400. level. Maybe we can cut down the cost if we incorporate an e-mail campaign for those who have an e-mail address. (Does the club have an e-mail list?) Or, uhmm, do we have access to something like that, being members and all?
(BUT, just in case the vote is for a name and logo change, I've ordered 2 additional sets of numbers and WBCCI stickers for the future.)
On a side note, I find it interesting how much Airstream Corp. has re-introduced Wally and the history of the Airstream back into recent advertising and promotional materials. Hmmm, maybe they're on to something?
And, I've been very inspired recently by doing some Wally Byam research. (I'm thinking of dawning a bullhorn at our next rally. Tim has a small motorized bike that I could ride around on!) The patch on MY beautiful, new, blue beret says 'Wally Byam Caravanners' and it has a profile picture of Wally on it. Looks pretty good.
I'm a 44-year-old vintage Airstream geek, and I'm loving Wally's vision. If I could have only been there during the early years, I would have been in heaven. (Historically modern. That's the tact the WBCCI should be taking to attract and retain new members.)

If this is not just someone pulling our collective leg . . . it just keeps getting worse and worse. AOAII . . . yeah that rolls off the tongue real nicely. . . NOT! I will keep working my local channels to try to get my unit and region to reject this inane proposal, but I am getting the idea that this is a losing proposition. Don't know what I'm gonna do. I have had fun at some WBCCI events and want to continue to do so, but I absolutely hate this latest proposal. AOA was bad, AOAI was worse, AOAII is just plain stupid and that's as nicely as I can put it. It seems the only way to vote on this issue may be with one's membership dollars (i.e. don't renew for 2007). I don't want to do it, but I may have to consider it.
Where's Candid Camera? I dare you! Please everyone, really, say AOAII out loud. Do it honest, I'm not kidding. Try to say it normally fast as you would in conversation. Try it three times for kicks. Better still turn to your partner and have them say it and watch their mouth. Now envision our officers speaking to the club...have you done that? I think I see a Saturday Night Live segment coming on...(maybe Carol Burnette ?) I truly can't say it.
I'm in for some postage---not as much as you two though!
Old Mcdonald had a farm- AOAII
And on this farm he had some ducks, with a quack-quack here and a quack-quack there, here a quack, there a quack, everywhere a quack-quack, AOAII.
People complained before that it took 5 minutes to explain who Wally Byam is when trying to describe WBCCI. But if things keep going like they are, you'll need 5 minutes just to say the club name!
