As I was returning from picking up my son from daycare today I rounded the corner to see 3 Airstreams in the parking lot of our local United Church.I couldn't believe it and did a doubletake to make sure I wasn't just imagining it.
It's the first Airstreams I've seen in my hometown this year. All three are WBCCI members from the Ontario Canada Unit,WBCCI #'s 3140,3689 and 6558.
I had to go back to stop in say Hi and offer any assistance or info they may need while they are in the area.A conversation ensued and I find out they are in the midst of touring Eastern Canada. They are performing at different venues during their travels and play the fiddle. They will be part of the Canada Day entertainment at the 2008 WBCCI International in Bozeman,Montana.
They are leaving for a performance in Cape Breton,Nova Scotia in the morning but offered me their courtesy parking in Ontario if I'm ever in their neck of the woods again.
The one thing I'm reminded of is that I would never have met these fine folks if it had not been for my involvement in WBCCI and the Airstream community. It's all about the people you meet.
The Airstream community is something. Having an Airstream gives one the ability to walk up to a total stranger (who just happens to have an Airstream) and become immediate friends.

Hello Nova Scotia - hope to travel that way someday. Our AS is only about 5312 miles away from your area right now tho'. Redeagle I have found that owning is not even a necessary condition - total strangers who admireAS seem to be the common factor here. Aloha

Hello Hawaii-hope to travel that way someday.I like the sound of that.Move your Airstream one mile east, then its only 5311 miles. Then, since you've already started heading this way whats a few thousand more miles Aloha
Two years ago while up in Cape Breton a giant MO parked next to me at the campground . We struck up a conversation and it turned out he was retired from the JC Airstream factory . In all likelyhood we both figured he helped assemble my coach Needless to say , I gave him a free tour.
I met a long time WBCCI'er at an International one year who recounted an interesting personal story to me.He was a musician for one of the big bands in the 1930's, Jimmy Dorsey's I believe. One night Al Capone payed for the whole band to play at his mansion with Al's armed guards in attendance. How cool is that.
