because we already have what you're trying to create: a fun unit that doesn't emphasize rules and focuses on having fun. So why re-invent the wheel?

Our unit doesn't discourage informal get togethers; we encourage them.

Example: I play banjo at Eureka Springs, Arkansas each Labor Day. Last month, I put out an email notice that any and all are welcome to join me and a tentative itinerary. I received a bunch of regrets from folks still in the northwest, but I currently have 3 more Airstreams and a SOB caravanning with me to Eureka. Without the far-flung International, I would have many more takers although some may join us at Eureka Springs for the leg home. Our members are eager to go pretty much anywhere any time and don't stand on protocols.

We have a few members and friends with land and some hookups. All it takes is a "Let's go" and we have a mini-rally underway.

We even have an ex member with a SOB motorhome who throws an informal rally in late summer (Sept this year) and ten or more of our unit show up. We even advertise his rally on our website.

We're the Texas Highland Lakes Unit. We're the fastest growing unit in Region 9.

We put on the Texas Vintage Rally in February with over 50 attending and we're co-hosting the Texas Vintage Rally next winter where we hope to have close to 100 Airstreams in attendance.

We schedule 5 more or less conventional rallies each year, but we don't limit ourselves to that framework. We have no formality except for the yearly installation of officers where we do dress up a bit more for a couple of hours. I have never seen a beret or jacket worn in this unit except for the installation.

We really enjoy each other's comoany and we even have older members that no longer travel that rent motel rooms near our rallies to be with us.

Hi,

Now you know I love you guys and that would be the easy solution and maybe the one the Unit chooses. But, lets imagin for a moment that that is what happens. Have you thought about that? Isn't there a danger of not addressing the ultimate issue, new clubs with less rules and attitude change? Merging the Units means you get the Unit AND the members who cling to the old ways. Have you considered what the impact of that might be on your Unit??? You just don't get me in this deal people, you get all my problems.......LOL

We would like to attend next winter's Vintage Rally. Where can we learn more?

It is posted under "WBCCI Rallies" in "The Rally Zone". The thread is

All Airstreamers are welcome; you do not have to be a WBCCI member (although we will surely invite you with no pressure).

We have a strong unit. There are units in the area that will fail; it is just a matter of time. We will surely absorb some of the folks from those units, but they are few enough and we are strong enough that they aren't going to change the way we operate.

Wea re rapidly adding younger folks to our unit which is a very healthy situation. However, the older folks in the unit aren't stuck in the past. They broke away from another unit years ago because that other unit just wanted to sit around and play cards. Sounds just like what is happening today.

I think part of that answer may be geographic. Look at the WBCCI Region Map. The Regions are for the most part smaller in the Northeast than the Southwest, and there are several Units in each Region. This makes it easier to shop for a Unit that suits you or to find an alternate Unit nearby.

Here in Region 11 (CO, AZ,NM, UT, WY and a tiny bit of TX) there is only one Unit per state (except CO) and our states are much larger than the northeast. So if you are in Region 11 and aren't happy with "your" Unit, you have quite a ways to go to meet up with another...which make involvement impractical.

Just a thought ~

Hi There Friend!

Yes, I agree with you 100%. It is not about competition between Units for members. It's about providing variety!!! Many of the NEU members see it the same way and have encourged me to create the different venue. They want to be connected to their home Unit but they are waiting with anticipated excitement to see what I might come up with for alternatives!!!!!! Isn't that exciting? Doesn't that sound like fun?
