3. Life Member fund will run out of money before long. I didn't write down the numbers, but my rough guestimate gives the fund about six years before it's operating in the red.

I'm kind of annoyed that the Legislative presentation mentioned the effects of Sequestration on national parks and on Air Traffic Controllers, but did not mention of its effects on Corps of Engineers campgrounds. Since roughly half of my camping is at CoE campgrounds, that's a lot more important to me than Air Traffic Control.

Yes the EC meetings are always quick. Only Motion presented and passed was the creation of a Committee for the Wounded Warrior Project.

Success

I missed the first hour of the broadcast this morning. I just now received an IPhone message from our unit President that my motion reducing the required days and numbers for numbered unit caravans passed 13-5. She also sent me the photo of some of those voting. Far left is Andy Selking (Region 9 1st VP) who presented Motion and far right is Judy Beckhold. Photo by Marque Mooney, our Prez.

This is the third time I have submitted this motion. Persistance sometimes pays off.

I was listening, and was glad to hear it pass. As a working stiff, being able to go on a unit caravan that runs Sunday-to-Saturday means that I might actually be able to go on my first caravan before I retire.

I can not receive the broadcast. What was Motion #2? When is the SOB motorhome motion coming up for vote?

Don't know about motion #2, but I think the MoHo amendment is slated for the Delegates Meeting.

Wonder if the demise of the CB Radio intra-club means that we'll be seeing a Social Media intra-club in the near future?

I'm not sure this change is as significant as it is widely perceived to be.

Units have always been able to host caravans as long or as short as they wanted.

This change reduces the number of days that a unit caravan has to run in order to be a numbered unit caravan, that is, a unit caravan that has been assigned a number (Uxxx) by International, which will be printed in the membership directory after the names of members that participated.

Other requirements for being a numbered unit caravan include,
  1. Participation by 10 or more trailers
  2. Overnight stops in 5 different locations
  3. Use the "kitty fee" system for expenses
  4. Adhere to provisions of the WBCCI Caravan Handbook
This is all covered on page 47 of the Bylaws and Policy section of the Blue Book, available on the WBCCI web site at

http://www.wbcci.org/general-informa.../finish/40/176

My unit averages 2 or 3 unit caravans a year, but I don't think we've had a numbered caravan in the 10 years we've been members.

Quite true

The motion is simply meant to give the current younger working members the ability to get credit for the caravans that they can afford the time and cost to take and today's smaller units the ability to hold numbered caravans.

One of the past excuses for voting against it was that it was simply "Ego" for the younger folks to want credit for numbered caravans. This was usually brought up by folks who had a string of numbered caravans listed after their names in the directory and who would have been the first to scream if their credits had been omitted.

The motion had two parts. One reduced the required number of rigs on a numbered caravan to correspond with the reduced number of rigs required to maintain a unit charter. The other part reduced the number of days and stops to better match the reality of time and cost capability of the new, younger owners.

This may be true, but at least in my Units, most of the club officers are long-time caravaners, and would not bother to organize a caravan that couldn't be numbered.

Thanks for clarifying this. My recollection was that the WBCCI Caravan Handbook required a minimum two night stay at each stop, so reducing the required number of days without reducing the required number of stops or number of days at each stop would have no real effect.

We have had a lot of fun on unit caravans. Unit members--and particularly potential unit caravan leaders--have to decide for themselves whether their goal is to have fun and see the sights in congenial company, or to get a number after their name in the directory. To each his own.
