Forming a new WBCCI Unit

Can't find a unit that does things that appeals to you? Have nine or more Airstream friends that share your views on what a unit should be to fit your lifestyle? Why not form a new unit? It only takes 10 members to start a new unit.

The first step is to get the required number (10) of members committed. Then contact the WBCCI office in Jackson center. They can guide you and put in touch with the Region Officers in your area.

Your Region is one of the key players in forming a new unit. The Region issues a Provisional Charter after talking to Jackson Center and keeping the IBT Executive Committee or at least the International President informed. To form a new Unit, you need to have Officers, a Constitution (just modifying the suggested one in the Blue Book to meet your needs is a start) and a program of activities (using the Unit Planning Guide can help). The Constitution and By Laws Committee needs to review the proposed Constitution to be sure that there are no conflicts with the WBCCI Constitution. Any recommendations they make need to be addressed. The Region Officers should be working with all the parties involved to be sure the process keeps moving forward. All these things take time. Jackson Center can be very helpful. The Charter is then approved by the IBT and issued, and you have a unit that fits your lifestyle.

I have a fair degree of certainty that I will regret sending this response. And, unintentionally Jim has really capsulated why I have no interest in the WBCCI!

1. I have a lifestyle.
2. It changes (that's a good thing)
3. I would do anything in my power to avoid all the trappings that are recommended (meetings, organizations, more meetings, yada yada)

Jim, believe me I take no offense to your recommendations - in fact I applaud your efforts! It's just I will never ever associate willingly with such a structured and (sounding) inflexible and limiting framework.

I just want to go camping with my family, and from time to time, associate with others! The best way I can describe this is as a runner - 300 days a year you go out and toil in darkness. Once or twice a year you join a race (10K, marathon, whatever) with others.

But we still all love Airstreaming - that is our bond!

Well, then Brad...I guess the WBCCI isn't for you. It's not for everyone...but Jim's message is a good one. For some, the main thing keeping them from becoming or staying members is the location of the nearest Unit or the "personality-type" of the Unit that is nearby. For that, I commend Jim's encouragement ~ Thanks!

We are fortunate to have a Unit that meets most of our needs ~ otherwise, I'd be all over starting a new one!

Thumbs up A Great Idea!

Jim, I could not agree with you more! I was not going to join the WBCCI because of my local unit. Then the 4CU movement came along and I took the plunge. We have had two rallies this year with several more in the works. Both of these rallies have been fun. I have meet many new friends that I will be camping with for years to come. If you do not like the way your rallies are run, start a unit and plan rallies the way you want them.

Things at the top are not going to change if the people who want change leave and wait for change. Get involved and make change. It is my opinion that new units are the future of Wally's Club.

The one thing that wil help a new unit get started is the region president. If you can get his / her support, things will happen. The 4CU had a few problems in that area at first, but now with his support things are moving right along.

Maybe we could form an airstreamforums.com Unit within the WBCCI. I'm sure that there are enough WBCCI Members-at-Large (myself included) who are Forums Members to pull it off. Forums Rallys could all be Buddy Rallys so that they would be open to mere potential Airstreamers.

What the heck! We could form several units and become a Region. Then we could hold a seat on the IBT, and introduce motions. Boy, would that ever upset the apple cart.
