Sounds like a good idea. Until it happens you can use advanced search in member list to find users who offer courtesy parking for a specific state.

Beautiful scenery. Somewhere in North America, right?

Yes, Southwest CO! Mesa Verde National Park!

I posted that info somewhere, on some forum, just a minute ago... Dorothy, you're not in Kansas anymore.

hi ya 'gypsy.......and great photos....

just googled the park......so this is sw of durango....sort of?

the area looks amazing.......and i'm coming.......no foolin.

now i see the park has a 400+ campground area....that doesn't open till late april/may....

it that because of the cold, or mud season or are they just controlling impact on the park?

i'd love to come mountain biking....in that region, and of course telluride, durango, gunnison, crested butte....and so on are mtn bike destinations...but what about near you....is there access on old longing roads, trails and such?

looks like the park only allows biking on the paved roads....
and hiking on the 7 designated trails.....so preservation must be an issue....

they mention trail riding is available nearby....but only by reservation and with a guide.......wow.

so what is the riding like in your local.....and water is tight there....do you haul water or have a well.......

man this looks like a great place and just south of all that high tourist activity....

and what great photos on your web site.......cool.......

cheers

Mesa Verde is about 45 miles west of Durango. But I believe the campground no longer support 400. After the last big fire a few years ago they didn't restore half of the campground. And it is probably due to cold and snow and lack of money that it closes in the winter. Many of the park activities close down for the winter.

There is plenty of hiking and biking and riding available close in and some of the best scenery you can imagine. The San Juan Skyway is a wonderful drive through many of the old mining towns.

Water not too tight even though the drought has been severe. I have lost many pinyon pines to it. I catch my own water.

And now back to the topic at hand.... Courtesy Parking. I hope to eventually clear out mini space so many people can stop at the same time very comfortably for a night or two or more if electricity, water and dumping are not a factor. Although I could provide them all on a limited basis.

And maybe someday a drive through work building that anyone could use when repairs are need. Big enough to house, maybe up to 31'.

thanks 2air'

Bump and fall 2003 Mesa Verde report

We stayed there in September of 2003 and they easily had 400 sites (some of these were a large group site). The number of full hookup sites are much less. Very nice campground and wonderful park. If I recall a flock of wild turkeys was roaming the campground loops. Go see it.
