I wanted to quote your post above but it would have been too long so I will say this is in response OR addition to what you have to say.

Yes, those are bad things to happen to any region and others will chime in about simular events here in the US and areas in the US they would not go. The big difference is - here you are a US citizen and when bad things happen you have rights and privileges that can protect you. In Africa you will always be the "outsider" and when sick, hurt, stuck or in legal trouble then THAT'S when the differences will appear.
