I have a new unit and there are others with new units that are in favor of retaining the name.
Right. I looked at the poll. You had a total of 41 WBCCI members and a grand total of (let me check) 7 forum members. Now using fingers and toes, that makes a grand total of , let's see, 48. Is that right? Let's see, that's .0034 per cent of the forum membership. Pretty impromptu don't you think??

For some well thought out and expressed opinions on this very subject, you may want to read these two posts from the Vintage sub-units thread, especially Post #28 & Post #32

I would venture a guess that most VAC members on on the same page as Fred

Well, I been doin a lot of readin before and after I joined the forum. Guess you folks call that a LURKER. Yep, I read that and knew that before. The VAC benefits a lot from the WBCCI. Still seems like the VAC is trying to stage a rebellion here. Notice that you're VAC as well.

I think the VAC is a great out fit. Just wish my rig was old enough to join.

Well, nuff said. Don't really care what they call it. Just love to get my 2 cents into a debate.

I say the same thing about the "Free Wheelers" just can not convince the Hubby to let me go - so I can join their Intra-Club

or how about - did they have any "Classics" in the 60's so I can pass my Changeover 69 as a mini Classic so I can join the Classic-Intra-Club.

Really in all fairness - there should be an "Affiliate" type of fee structure available to all members to join whatever "faction" of the WBCCI they wish and the prerequisit should be a simple interest in it.

Yes I have a passion for vintage - but I also love the newer Airstreams and the first chance I get I will own one of those too. So where do members who have an interest in the different factions fair.

Just as at "some" rallies the vintage rigs are sectioned off - why could the vintage rallies not section off all those WBCCI members who may not have a vintage rig but have a real interest in the History and the Vintage Trailers. We sure do like to open our door for everyone to see and love to parade down the street to dangle our shinny rigs. Almost like a "you can see but don't touch"

I would like to see more open houses with all age rigs and MOHO's there are a lot of neat things people do in their new rigs too - and probably would love to share their ideas - but there does not seem to be too many open houses for the new (81+).

All in good time....all in good time...

PS No rebellions as there is no conspiracy - just the blind leading the blind.....

The "rebellion" as you call it is NOT a VAC promoted or staged event. It may at times appear that way here on the forums for a couple of reasons, primarily based on age demographics. You will notice, that the demographic of both VAC and forum members is younger than the general "active" population of the WBCCI.

Primarily because younger "pre-retirees" are able to afford vintage trailers due to the intial investment being less. Most can't justify a brand new expensive trailer sitting around un-used except for 2-3 vacation weeks a year, while we are off working.

Secondly, the forums attract a generally younger crowd who tends to be online alot and more computer-savvy. Not to say some older WBCCI members aren't vintage owners or computer-savvy, just that the AVERAGE person who particiaptes on a forum of this type is not the "typical" WBCCI member who actively participates year after year in the politics of the WBCCI.

That first pole - could be a crystal ball to what might happen if #3 of the "Options the Delegates Have" document.

It is funny when you look back at all this - it has been a ride - and for some a lot of fun too - and for others who have always had a choice NOT to read if they don't want to - some feathers have flown and some people have really taken some things that have been said to heart.

But people this is a forum - a place for verbal diarhea and at times a place to catch a piece of info that can help you out once and a while - or just satisfy a need whatever it may be.

There are many threads throughout this forum where people have conversations about things I have absolutely no idea what they are blabbing about - starts with a funny saying or pic and then just goes and goes and goes.

This topic should be no different.....

Shari - I am glad that you have come back in to the conversations I for one have missed your insite. (Are you all settled?)

I am not a MOD but I sure have taken some kicks from various peoples....over the past couple of years - but life goes on.

Cheers too - tink tink!!!

Sorry, that we have to jump in allthough we are NO WBCCI members. We are now supporters of SaveWally.org!! We just posted the Avatar and a link on our blog, which could be interesting as our blog is often visited by people who searched the word Airstream on msn.com! Yes, the blog has only very few visitors at the moment, but maybe this will help to spread the word...

BTW we won´t become members of the AOAI...

Someone askes before why so many VAC members are against the name change, well maybe because Vintage Units are much closer to what Wally was about than the newer units and owning an older unit gets you more into the history of Airstreams and the history of Wally than newer units... Just to clear this up - we like the new units, but we love Vintage and our 1971 probably will be the newest unit that we´ll ever own. The next one will be a 60´s unit for shure!

Stefanie and Bjoern

Thanks for doing SaveWally.org!!!

Gunner -- I'm not aware of any polls that would prove one way or the other that VAC members make up the majority of the no name change group. I never thought of it as a VAC or NOT VAC issue because our unit voted against the name change last year and the unit is mostly not VAC.

So if the VAC were to take the WBCCI name and leave the ee-i-ee-i-oh name to the rest of us, I wouldn't be too happy about it.

Oh, my point xactly. The polls thus far resemble the liberal press polls that tell us how the country thinks. Over 11,000 folks on this forumj, almost 400 online at a time and the poll gets 41 respondants, and then it is touted as the will of the people. Ya'll must be all democrats.

We have our membership in WBCCI not because we have intention to ever participate in caravans or national rallies but because in some inane way when we bought our Airstream we also bought into the ambiance of the whole past of Airstream and what it seemed to mean to us growing up. In respect for that past, we support WBCCI with a membership-at-large. I think this prevents us from having any vote on the name change at all. (???) Maybe someday we'll join a local unit such as the St. Louis group, maybe not. Probably because of that same sense of traditional past with Airstream, we would prefer the club's name to reflect that past--something that "e-i-e-i-o" just doesn't do. There doesn't seem to be much rational fact behind our position; just a strong sense of "Airstream consciousness." Make sense? Probably not to anyone but us! We'd prefer a simple: WBCCI, the Airstream Club. To us, that keeps the past and brings it current for clear understanding if people wonder what it's all about. ~G
