The problem is that some current leaders thought that they could make something better by changing the name of the club. Fifty one years after the fact some members personal feelings were that they had to muck with success -- making something to reflect their own time instead of just building on what already has successfully existed for 51 years.

How about the units that voted 'no name change' yet weren't able to get their delegates to Salem so their units cast ZERO votes? A complete waste of time at the local level. What about the 649 members at large that have no right to a vote?

We're taking a stab at bringing something forward that will put the future of the club back into every member's hands -- let leaders lead -- but let members verify what their elected leaders would like to do. The last effort almost ran the club off the side of a cliff. We need to make sure that doesn't happen again.

It's a first run -- it's rough -- it's lengthy -- but in practice it's actually pretty simple and will assure that no one mucks with this club again without all 7000+ members having an extremely convenient way of casting their educated votes. The name change would have died on the vine two years ago with modern voting procedures.

This is what the club should have been working on instead of wreaking havoc with the membership. Give members something to look forward to -- something that acknowledges their existence. Something almost no one could vote against.

If you're a WBCCI member or leader we need to get some input on this. After this has been knocked around and checked every way from Sunday we're going to see if we can get a few units to adopt what comes out of this. Then we can hopefully run it up to a receptive Region and then onto national. We have to start somewhere with something -- it's a first stab at something that assures everyone gets to place an educated vote.

As always, subject to multiple revisions but this is a long overdue change. I don't want to have to rely on anyone carrying my vote to Perry GA. I don't want anyone trying to push an incomplete motion while withholding important facts that the membership needs to see in order to cast an intelligent vote.

You can be an affiliate member of the VAC for $20 per year. You'll get their newsletter 3-4 times a year. I love the VAC newsletter -- it's very well done.

Vintage folks seemed pretty laid back to me. The nightly happy hour in Salem was great. Hanging and talking with vintage folks at their trailers was a real treat.

No one in the vintage area discriminates against newer trailers. The reverse may not always be true. If you want the vintage experience, just park as close to those folks as you can -- it's a whole different world over there full of smiles (except when the generators quit)!

Hello 65GT ,

I agree with you and the fact that votes are forsaken as not important is
just not right ,you have said most all that needs to be said in great detail.I
really cannot add much more to what you are saying .It should work as I have posted ,so all the votes per unit are rightfully counted .If they are not
a change of OPERATIONS is needed ,an overhaul . A name change ,cant change ,but the same name along with the history and celebration of the airstream trailer by all members ,with making the needed changes inside the
walls of wbcci to acommodate all members is the only thing that will work .
Abeit ,hard work and not easy ,but necessary .

You know I forgot to provide a link for this. For those that will never get a chance to read Bowling Alone there is an NPR (National Public Radio) interview that was done back in 2000 with David Putnam a professor at Harvard and author of the book.

If you want just one more piece of amunition that flies in the face of WBCCCI Region folk crying the sky is falling (the club is dying) and trying to use that as a basis of a name change -- this should put all those chicken little voices to rest.

It's seven and a half minutes long. It's slow to load during the first 20 seconds or so and then it kicks right in... I highly recommend it, especially if you'll never make it to the book...
