Since the Denco amendment is getting approved using method 2, the size of the unit is not of concern. When 2/3 of the units register approval, it is adopted. Northern Illinois has registered its approval of the amendment. I have not checked with Cindy recently to find out the results or how close the club is to approving it. Many of the units do not hold business meetings during the camping and caravaning season.

I am aware of the process and requirements. It was notable that we had such a large turnout for our meeting, and there was little disagreement on the issue or our annual elections.

I'm just catching up.

This is a reply to 12/22/09.

There are only 2 pages about flags, not 18 as published on 12/22/2009

How would you classify a Code of Ethics? This is my definition and I wrote it myself.

"A uniform set of standards to advise members of an organization of what has been determined to be acceptable behavior for its members."

In this day of lowered moral standards, poor taste in dress, language that is inappropriate for mixed company, it seems that a C of E should be required of every organization in the land, and especially including our government.

Now you state that no grievance has been made re the By-Laws, but only re the Code of Ethics. It would seem that members must obey the By-Laws (and do so), and that only one person has needed to be chastised for a breach of the Code of Ethics. Probably with good reason.

Flags.

Many of us have strong feelings about our national and state flags. Much of what is included in the By-Laws is merely addressing proper flag etiquette. And if an organization wants to limit the type of flags flown at its events, this is not a violation of free speech, but rather an affirmation of the organizationís right to make its own policies. This in itself is an expression of Free Speech.

Phil,

I have to disagree with you on both counts.

There are 15 pages of how to fly your flag in the Blue Book appendix article 12. While I understand flag etiquette, 15 pages is an indication of too many people without enough to do.
The same can be said for the 5 pages of "how to wear your badge and what you can put on it"
We really don't need a bunch of flag or badge police running around rallies.

I would support totally eliminating the ethics and grievance committee which is used as a tool to harass vocal members. About $ 20 K was spent to eliminate one vocal member from the club and and a search on this forum will bring up plenty of info on Bob Thompson and the 3 strikes letter and his suspension while a region prez.
Other members have been threatened with, or have had grievances filed against them for opposition to the way the WBCCI forum was set up, you know. the one that had to be closed because it was hosted on a site not controlled by the club . These vocal members opinions were proved correct in the end.
In fact a grievance was apparently filed by some one who was not even a member at the time of the supposed offense. but of course when you pay late they backdate for the entire year.
Ethics and grievance filings have been like a bunch of school kids running to teacher.
Nothing new here, there is an article in Sports Illustrated, july 6, 1970 on Airstreaming and a cartoon captioned "If banished by the golden rule committee you are out forever"

It is time we grew up and settled our differences as adults and simply avoid those we don't like or can't disagree with in a gentlemanly manner.

Phil I am sure a lot of incorrect info has been posted on here, but so has a lot of accurately documented correct information.
It would take a lot of hours to dig through all that stuff but you would develop a better understanding of what is happening.
Not meaning to offend and I hope none is taken

It is time to move this club out of the 40's and fifties. An 80% drop in membership since 1976 is a sure sign a lot is wrong and has been for a long time

I am not able to find any 12/22/2009 post in THIS thread that even speaks to the number of pages of flag protocol. Perhaps Phils post and my reply above should have been in a different thread??

Now that we are in the month of September, how is the Denco Amendment doing amongst the Units. Anyone know a tally so far, yey, or nay?

As they would have said in my father's generation, "Whoa Nellie!" You are talking about our friends and co-members! Personally, you may want to work towards prevention (of extreme dress and differing flag flying) but in fairness to all members you should steer way clear of apprehension and trying to "make collars" on the good members of this fellowship of friends using the code of ethics OR By-Laws because you think they are inappropriate. You are probably addressing a large number of boomers and dress codes in particular are not going to fly in the face of a casual camping or caravanning club. It may have been the thing 50 years ago but now the club is not your father's club or militare. Younger generations are filling in the membership vacancies that the passing generation has vacated. With no disrespect to what was in it's glory days, it is now time to let the current majority fashion what is and graciously let go. Old men shouldn't wear Speedos, just sayin'. Things change. Retirement isn't a bad word.

As far as I know about the amendment it has not been addressed or voted upon by Nova (Northern Ohio.) Nor is there an upcoming business meeting scheduled that I am aware of or any activity on the web site of any kind.

As indicated, the GA Unit voted to Ratify. There was little dissent.

The TN unit meets on 9/23. It will be interesting to see if it is even brought up voluntarily. No information has been sent to the unit membership regarding this amendment as of this time.
