5 "Star General"..
Live and learn...
This past week, while on the road, I met my first ever "5 Star General"...
Airstream's version of that, that is, for it's members of WBCCI..
The owners had a 1984 Classic 310 motorhome, which sported their WBCCI numbers on the top with "red stars" between the WBCCI numbers.. Way kewl~!~
Seems that, after every 5th year of WBCCI membership, you're entitled to a "star"..
Just another trival piece of info..
ciao

Is there such a thing as an "8 Star General"?
We actually have a member in our WBCCI Unit that has 8 stars! His name is Ray DeSelms, he is 86 years old and the original owner of his '62 Overlander. Way cool!!!
BTW he is actively working towards his ninth ~
Another thought...I will only be 82 by the time I get my 8th Star

By the time I get 8 stars, I'll be 93, and that will be in 2043. (sigh)

Hey, it would take me until I was 75 to earn 8 stars - I'd still be a young'n by WBCCI standards! I can't remember (and it's still dark out or I'd go look), but my trailer had a couple stars on it from the previous owners. That's a pretty cool thing, really

Next year I get my Second star!
I would have 5 stars at 55 years old, and still be a young-un in the club.

FWIW, we have an 8-star member in the NewEngland unit...met them at a rally last fall.
I think they spend most of the winter in FL. Nice folks with a big-ol' 34-footer. Can't remember name...all I remember is that Mr. is a retired doc, and his first name is John.

Rupert & Vera Leuch of Arkansas make all of those folks seem like spring chickens. The Leuchs are Charter Members of WBCCI (which means they've been members since 1955) and are therefore entitled to nine stars if I've done the math right, and a tenth star in 2005.
[BEGIN SHAMELESS PLUG] These active 90+ folks will appear in the Summer issue of Airstream Life. [/END SHAMELESS PLUG]

They were at the Region 9 Rally last month. They got up and did a solo waltz in front of the stage to"Waltz Across Texas". They are the only remaining charter members. Ray is the most deadpan person you will ever see; his expression never changes.

Being a new member, I didn't know about the stars, that's interesting! I dont understand about the numbers. The AS has 10201 and my numbers are 2249. (39?) Are they re-cycling numbers? And the 2 round stickers- where should they be placed? Seems to me the trailer has two and the van we bought to pull it has 2 or 3. Does this mean one can get more? Pure laziness, it's easier to stick a decal over the old one than to scrape it off. I know, lol, everyone groan. Yes, I am that lazy. I'm reserving all my strength for breathing and typing!! silver suz.

Yes, they are recycling...
The WBCCI number (the big red ones) are assigned to the members, not the trailer. So if the trailer trades hands, it may have the old member's WBCCI numbers still on it. If the previous owner is no lonager a member, you can request to obtain their numbers so you don't have to change them on the trailer. If they are still a member or someone else already has those numbers, you will need new ones. If a member has more than one trailer, the same number goes on all of them.

I talked to my wife about putting our numbers on the trailer. She informed me that I will have unlimited stars that will come from the pummeling of my head when she see's what I did to the pretty aluminum!
End result no numbers, pretty aluminum, no stars for Jack.

You could always put them on your window instead...I know it's not 100% PC with hardcore Wally-ites, but alot of people are doing it these days.

I going to do it with a small sheet of Lexan with suction cups to hook to the front glass. I've seen others do it. It id's you at rallys but doesn't do the branding that the typical application does.

Thank you for your information. But why would I get a 4 digit number instead of the present 5 digit number? Do they recycle numbers? Just curious. Silver suz

They are currently recycling numbers.
If there is a number on the trailer and it is not in use by an active member, and available, you can request the number that is on the unit now. If you want it.
The only thing you would need to do is remove any stars that are there. It really is your call.
BTW most folks can remember a four digit number easier than a five.

If you decide to put numbers on the glass, use white, not red. They will show up great. I have 6" on the front window shield and rear window. Have 4'" on the front window under the stone shield, which can be seen when the stone shield is up at a rally. Have 3" on the top of the windshield of the tow vehicle. All white. The only problem with the white numbers is that they can be seen so well, that in a caravan, by the time the following unit can't read the numbers, he is a loooong way back.
Save that clearcoat by putting numbers on the glass.

It might be nice to remember to put, paint or otherwise add the numbers to the top of your unit. Just in "case " it comes up missing. This is a really good suggestion by another member, when a unit was declared missing from a storage unit this Spring. We'll be putting them up there on our new unit, when it arrives home in a couple of weeks.
Best,
