That would be the Free State of Jefferson.

Hi, that might be true, but we are not the "car theft capital of the world". [Phoenix]

Car Thefts 2008, and Phoenix Status April 15, 2009

In 2008 6 of the 10 cities ranked as "Worst Cities for Car Thefts" were in the state of California.

As of April 15, 2009, Phoenix, AZ has dropped off the top 10 listing year-to-date.

Based on population, not city name?

Hi, Play on words. "Based on population" [per 100,000 people] I still think Phoenix is the grand prize winner.

2008 Modesto, Ca. 4,200 car thefts.

2008 Phoenix, Az. 26,000 car thefts.

You sure got that right.

I guess we can either tread water and hope for change or steal a car.

New Mexico/Texas Neverland Strip

If you look at the eastern border of NM the border takes a jag where the panhandles of OK, TX and the north east border of NM meet. New Mexico has always said the TX border is in the wrong place, and should be a few miles to the east so the eastern border of NM is one straight north south line. From what I heard NM and TX are still in dispute and it has been proposed the matter be settled by a card game.

I also heard the original surveyed height of Mt. Everest has been determined to be a few feet off.

In the Adirondacks there are still some isolated patches of virgin forest. These big trees survive because surveyers disagreed on property lines and these small patches were left in legal limbo as to who had the rights to them.

Last year, when the SE drought was at its height (or nadir), Georgia reopened the question as to the exact line of its northern border. Seems that the line should have been farther north, but some hostiles scared off the surveyors before they could mark the line correctly. Had they done so, GA would be able to claim some Tennessee River water - and gotten Chattanooga, to boot.

Can I become a charter member of the Almost Four Corners Unit? Especially since I'm almost a member of WBCCI?

Surveyors?

Recently I was in Quito, Ecuador, that south American country between Colombia, Peru. and the blue Pacific, that country named after the Equator because it's smack dab on the equator. So it's a tourist thing to straddle the line between the northern and southern hemispheres with one foot in each. A brick line is embedded in the concrete at the big tourist center built to capitalize on the tourist trade. French surveyors located the spot last century.

About a 1/4 mile away, a small Indigenous (Indian) village has its own tourist attraction and its own line between the two hemispheres. With the advent to the GPS, it can now be proved that the Indians called it precisely (using astronomy and magic, I guess).

Of course I had to straddle their line, too, doggone it.

Michael

Huh

SO what does this all have to do with me, my Squarestream and my 4CU freinds?
NOT one thing.
Looks to me like it is a Navajo Nation problem, let Window Rock take care of it.
Me I think I will go camping in California on the beach by the sea of dept.
Maybe I can help save some of them from drowning in it.That is If the BIG one does not get there first.
