Ahhh, sweet procrastination has failed me again

Well, I really didn't expect the sites to fill up so soon, based on previous years attendance numbers. I was planning on waiting until the first of the year to join in order to save on membership dues. Looks like we will either be dry camping or heading to Douthat State Park. Any thoughts or suggestions? Is it worth dry camping for an entire week, or should I just stop by and visit from a local campground?
Please... no lectures, my wife is taking care of that.

I would go ahead and sign up for dry camping, there will be cancellations so there is still hope. It is always fun to camp with 700 Airstreams and 1000 friends.

It's obvious the people planning the rally facilities underestimated attendance. We've been planning to attend the WVa rally for several years (since it was announced) to make a statement that rallies in the east are a viable way to get members involved. We know several other people that are specifically attending this event in order to make a statement. Of course, we'll have fun too and meet new friends as well as renew friendships.

There are likely many reasons rally attendance has been decreasing. The reasons are varied but one of the reasons is a limited number of people can take time to drive to points far west of the Mississippi - great places, yes - but far, far from home for many of us. There are other threads on Air Forums regarding rally attendance. The rallies on the eastern seaboard have typically been relatively well attended.

Attendance Number

In the September 2015 Blue Beret, the prediction I made in July of 1,050 attendees was published in the Presidents message. I firmly believe that if the rally is held near the membership, and in an attractive location, Airstreamers will come. This is coming true in Lewisburgh.

For those that did not sign up yet, You will be dry camping. Although this presents additional challenges, I urge you not to be dissuaded from coming. You own an Airstream! Your trailer was designed to boondock! Do it and enjoy it. Wally would be proud.

Now, let me add a not-so-great prediction. The 2017 International in Escanaba, Mi will have less than 400 attendees. Although the Upper Peninsula has become one of my my favorite destinations, it just is not suited for a large rally. First, it's too far of a drive for most of the WBCCI membership. Secondly, the best attractions of the UP are several hours away. I do hope I'm wrong, but I don't think I am.

With that said, I encourage those "on the fence" to take advantage of the opportunity to experience a great rally in Lewisburgh. If you are not a WBCCI member, join NOVA ( www.campnova.com )and come camp with us! We love new folks!

The WBCCI is still working with the Fairgrounds on sites, the Fairgrounds are adding more hookups, but it's still unclear how many more, if any, there will be.

I would go ahead and sign up for dry, you may get a hookup spot. Sooner your on the dry list the sooner you might get a hookup site. And you can cancel up until May 15, 2016, with a $30 cancellation fee.

But like you, I haven't registered yet, because I don't know my schedule yet.

Actually we had pretty well decided to go to Michigan because it is an area we had not seen, was not on the fourth, and most likely will cost less and possibly offer a dry camping option. Actually several of the past rallies that were fairly accessible had poor attendance. Il.and Mo. come to mind.
We skipped 5 of the last 6 because we were not willing to pay for hookups. Now it appears options are becoming available and we will be attending.

Driving distance is not a big factor in our decision on whether to attend the International.

Hi RickDavis,

Are you attending WVa too? If so, we'll see you there.

Our tentative plans for 2017 include the Int'l rally in the Michigan U.P. so we'll plan to see you there too.

We registered for WV when dry camping was announced. Will also be boondocking around FL in Feb and March so perhaps we will cross paths

Would anybody know if they will have a generator section? Or a place where one can run a generator at night for the air conditioner? The wife says she better have ac at night that time of year of its a no go for us...... I can live without the ac when push comes to shove but am getting over ruled on this one.

Although nothing beats Kentucky in springtime, this should be close! I'm really looking forward to experiencing the country, the rivers, and the people.

I'll be there with my NOVA flag flying. Who else can I plan on sharing the fun with?

Look forward to meeting you! I lived in KY for several years when I was young, my g'parents were each Postmaster of the Mays Lick post office. M

I don't know the answer to your question, however they can answer your question at the office in Jackson Center. I can forward your question, or you can contact them. I think you will enjoy the rally in Lewisburg.

As for the questions regarding schedule, it is just a little early for a specific listing of events.

While it is not a direct comparison we spend a couple weeks a year about 100 miles north of Lewisburg, end of August until labor day. The elevation is around 2000 ft as is Lewisburg I have experienced hot days but do not ever recall an uncomfortable night in 40 years. I have had to run heat some nights. Statistically the night time low for July in Lewisburg is 59 degrees..
Of course all temperature bets are off at any Airstream rally.
Look me up if you get a chance. I see your posts on the TDR forum from time to time

As to things to do in WV, there is a PGA Tour stop at the Greenbriar that starts the following week. Anyone interested might check to see if you can visit the site and often some players are practicing. I've played in a number of Tour events as an amateur and often if one is not playing the tournament the week before an event they will be their practicing.

Plus the resort is simply a great place to visit and grab a lunch or dinner.

Enjoy

Nothing official yet, usually about two month from the rally we post a preliminary schedule on the wbcci website.

There will be pie. Don't be late. (Which means 15 minutes early.)
