regardless of your feelings about the marketing to the younger crowd, don't let it hurt your feelings.
Look at GM's failure to do the same thing 2 decades ago. Remember Oldsmobile.....Too late, but look what Cadillac did to revitalize itself......it worked, the average age of the buyer has fallen by some 15 years. Watch Buick. It is in the midst of its conversion, after the Cadillac model. Average age of the buyer has fallen almost 10 years in the last 4 model years, primarily due to the Enclave. Follow up with LaCrosse, Regal, Encore, etc.

AS has already begun. The International, and Eddie Bauer are excellent examples.

The club must align with the societal demographic change....or die a slow and painful death....like Oldsmobile.

I'd cast my lot for an electronic format. A compressed, searchable PDF wouldn't be a very large file and would accomplish most of the wants listed above (for a geek, anyway... I could keep a copy of the PDF on my smartphone and always think about searching, though I realize I'm not the average user... "average user" is something of an insult in my business.)

My copy arrived in the mailbox today. It was in good condition. No problems. Right off I think I prefer the small version from last year better, however my vote is for a version on electrons. Maybe an app that has a quick search function. Just type in 9777 in your smart phone and BAM! There I am!

I like the new format, you can read it much better with the larger font, and it still fits in the glove box.

Since I have firsthand experience with the USPS, I can honestly tell you, that taping shut a magazine format hasn't been in effect for printing companies for years.
Now, the Post Office has a new machine in use in some sections of the country that may or may not have ill effects on your magazines, directories and catalogs and such (letters are sorted through an entirely different machine and have been for over 25 years now, why do you think it ONLY costs .45 to mail a letter).
Large mailers do not fall under the same mailing restrictions as someone who walks up to a window clerk to mail something.
By working both the mail sorting area, and now for 8 plus years as a letter carrier, I simply didn't have time as a mail sorting clerk or as a letter carrier to take the time out of my 500 plus deliveries (in less than 6 hours) to go through everyone's mail and make sure to rip up your front and back covers.
It's all the machines that handle your mail that causes this, well the machines and how the printing companies bundle up your magazines, directories and catalogs.
If you've got a beef with the condition of your directory, I suggest all to contact WBCCI and have them check into delivery options with teh printing company of the directories next year (my suggestion, shrink-wrap the bundles instead of plastic straps).
Just my .02 worth.
Thanks, Derek

Finally received my copy of the 2012 Directory. It arrived in great shape and the larger font is much easier on my old eyes.

Hmmm - maybe next issue they can poly-bag it to protect it a little better.

Mine also arrived with a piece ripped from the cover. Typically any magazine that comes to my house has 50% or better chance in being ripped. I wish the post office would just rip up the junk mail instead.

Ours arrived in fine shape, but I would prefer an epub or pdf version. Even better would be one I could subscribe to so that it would be continually updated as members are added and deleted.

Ours arrived today - late because we renewed late. I like the format and wish they had all been published in this size/format. Oh well, assuming it continues to be published in this larger size, I'll put the small ones on one shelf and the larger ones on a separate shelf.

By the way, ours was sent in an envelope. Probably because we renewed late.

I'm continuing to hope for member-only smartphone apps and a web interface. Surely that's just around the corner.

has any progress been made on an iPhone App, or an online directory???

Gee, the web site could even allow members to make suggestions to improve the club.

Int'l: Whoa! Hold your horses now parder - that's getting a little too trendy! If it's not printed, and sent via USPS we don't want it. If it ain't broke don't fix it!

Member: Doh, I forgot, this is WBCCI. What was I thinkin'? Here's my signed check, sent via snail mail. I'll get back in line sir, read my little blue book, and hope there are still openings for the rally I want to attend.

Back to the OP. I forgot to renew my membership until today. So I won't be receiving the book/directory for a while. I'll just have to wait and see what the fabulous printed information looks like.

Have we checked what percentage of the current and potential membership want a Smart Phone App for the membership list? I can not see how it could be useful. A Smart phone app for campgrounds would be useful to those that travel and have smartphones. We travel with our hard copy club directory but rarely use it. We carry a hard copy of a recent Blue Beret to look up activities in the area we might want to attend.

And that is the problem with the club. The i do t use it or need it therefore you wont either. I dont even carry a check book any more. if it cant be done online or with credit/debit cards I dont need it. i actually had to have a bank check cut last year to pay dues.... An app would be good. I laugh at all the registration coupons in the back of the BB. Real time info and capabilities is what todays society demands. Granted it is not necessary, but neither is spending the extra $ for an airstream. So the club either keeps up or goes by the wayside. Sorry just my two cents worth.
