With the release of the 2007 WBCCI Directory it is a good time to review the membership total compared to last year.
The trend continues These are official Home Office Numbers.
2006 WBCCI Directory total--6919 Members
2007 WBCCI Directory total--6549 Members

It seems that every year, the WBCCI loses a number of members due to age and health. Many do not continue to tow. Some have switched to A/S brand motorhomes and continued their memberships. I see a number of older members at the local WBCCI events and I think that participation in the club has kept them "young at heart"! I hope that I will remain in good health and be travelling into my later years as well.

I know one that left most likely after that was published....so 2007 would be 6548 or a loss of 371.

I know 2 that joined....does that count...so 2007 would be 6550 or a loss of 370. The totals are from the printing from one directory to the next. The trend is clear.
The Club has so much to offer. Try taking a caravan with Good Sams or one of the others and compare the costs. The fellowship that we have and the chance to meet each other at rallys across this nation are things you can't buy. I have met so many wonderful people and have gone places and seen things that without WBCCI would have been impossible for me. I love my RED NUMBERS 3485

It might make a great new thread to ask all the WBCCI members what is it that keeps them renewing their membership and what is the value (other than pretty red numbers) of being a WBCCI member.
I'd like to hear the positive side of the equation too!

As an owner of a MH, we belong to both the WBCCI and FMCA and there is a difference. Motorhome owners are not treated like redheaded stepchildren in the FMCA. Our local WBCCI unit has a lot of fun with us and calls the MH "the mother ship" but when we go to regional or international rallys we really feel the coldness from trailer owners. We enjoy the local unit, but have a hard time justifing $ 70.00 vs. $35.00 (FMCA). This will probably be the last year for us in the WBCCI.

Bfred,
Try and join FMCA with a trailer, of course the motorhome is not treated as a redheaded stepchild, they are all redheaded.
If you don't enjoy the regional or international rallies, then just go to the local unit rallies, are you sure that you want to lose those friends?
Are there any other manufacturer specific clubs which have both motorhomes and trailers?

The VAC is far more susceptible to precarious drops than the standard membership numbers.
A VAC member has to weather club, unit (or MAL), AND VAC dues. I don't think we have current numbers (my renewal didn't go in until last week) but in a recent email I had from Wayne Moore (a.k.a. WAM) corresponding over the displeasure of SOBs coming into the club he did highlight some VAC numbers...
2001 - >1800 members
2004 - >1000 members
2006 - >700 members
There's a continuing splitting debate within the VAC over what could be. I think it's pretty much a no brainer that VAC ranks could be >2500 members if we weren't under the WBCCI umbrella.
As Fred C pointed out long ago being under the umbrella saves the VAC a ton of work and hassle.
That 2500 number could represent a serious drain from the WBCCI in the event of a split. There are many that would belong to the VAC instead of the WBCCI if it were separate.
The name change possibility gave many the ire to leave. SOBs could very well be the walking papers that didn't materialize last year. Feelings are stronger against the International Leadership now than they ever have been. TWO club crisis years in a row could be the straw...
Let's hope IBT leaders move away from protecting their positions with a WBCCI tagged or Airstream badged Class A MH and instead just Grandfather those that need the path to remain affiliate members when their current Class A's bite the dust. They keep their friends from many years. Let them buy whatever they want -- they probably won't be able to vote or hold elective office without a MANUFACTURED by Airstream MH so it shouldn't matter what they buy. Let them enjoy their last traveling years reaping the benefits of what they've helped maintain without the responsibility of elected office, voting concerns, and parking center-field with all eyes watching...
I'm sure the 1st-3rd VP and the 12 Region Presidents (vying for that 3rd VP slot) aren't ALL running out in need of a new Class A TOMORROW. Because if they are word is that there are DOZENS of Airstream Class A's out there right now - STUCK on dealers lots...
