Tow vehicle/Trailer match
Thought I had a perfect tow match but got concerned after reading about possible trailer damage from HD tow vehicles. I tow a 28' CCD GVWR #7300, with a 2003 Suburban 2500 8.1 liter autoride,3.73 rear. Is this a match without modifications. Darrell

Yes. The 2003/2004 2500's actually ride softer than my 97 1/2 ton. You should not have any problems with this setup.

Darrell -- I fully agree with uwe. I've had a smooth riding 1/2-ton Nissan Titan and now a 3/4-ton GMC truck. The GMC ride is a bit more busy but not in the least bit harsh. You couldn't tow a 28-footer with anything less than a 2500, so sleep easy tonight!

Thanks guys, no offense to Andy of Inland, but sometimes after reading his threads ,one has a tendency to worry about things I never even thought about. You probably guessed I was reading the honda gen. mount thread. Darrell

Don't forget that the truck may be more heavily sprung on the rear axle because they were designed for hauling stuff in the bed. I'd like to see a comparison, picture wise and stat wise, of the same year 2500hd and the 2500 Suburban rear leaf springs.

In retrospect
I now remember we test drove many 2500 HD trucks and the Suburban was a much softer ride. The Allison trans. wasn't available on the Suburban 2500 which I would have liked ,but the trade of was the ride. Darrell

Darrell -- Airstream frames have changed over the decades and have tended to become beefier. My Argosy frame is a lightweight compared to our Safari, yet nothing prepared me for the scanty amount of material on a Minuet frame. I believe Inland Andy has seen a lot of the damage he reports. I'd wonder about a more detailed comparison of damage by frame type. Generalizing is a human and sometimes humane characteristic in telling our tales. Me? I'll blame a lot of damage on the rocking ride of some of these older truck-damaged poured concrete highways!

I wouldn't trade my 2500 HD except for a newer one
There are many things to worry about when towing your Airstream. So far my Silverado (now teamed with the Hensley) has greatly reduced my worry list. My contrarian two cents (and I don't discount Andy's wisdom). Having said that I've been reading about an economical air suspension system from Firestone that I might try to soften the ride. A non surgical approach. I also don't max out my tire pressure.
