28' CCD International
I may have seen a 2005 28' Internationa today. I wish I had paid more attention to the 'sticker'. It was a model we had not considered before because of the weight and cost but we were so taken with it we have to think it through.
Here are some of the differences I saw compared to the 28 CCD shown in Airstreams website. - No cabinets over the dinette, just slotted windows with built in accordian shades, one over the normal window next to the sofa also.
- Two skylights in the roof, not fantastic vents but fixed, no fan skylights with built in shades.
The entire unit was more open and bright I have to reconsider whether the perceived problems with the combined grey and black tanks and additional cost and weight will cause us to mark it off the list.
My tow vehicle is a 2004 Ford F150 rated for a loaded trailer weight of 9,500 lbs. That may be doable but there are other things to consider. Even if a I maxed the trailer weight at 7200 and the truck at 7200 I would be under the 15,000 GCWR. I feel I would need to stay in the 80% range to be comfortable so I will have to get the truck weighed and get some new batteries for the calculator and figure it out!

It is the 5.4 V8 with a 3.73 gear and the heaier GVWR and towing package. Pretty much all you can get in a F150. Someone told me the 2004 150's are beefier than the 250's were in 2003. I don't know if that is true or not. I even question some of the ratings published. I think alot of it is marketing driven.

I just checked the chart again, I read it incorrectly, it is rated for 9,300 not 9,500.

It is at Caldwell Airstream in Columbus, OH. They have about a dozen units eight of which were delivered Friday.

28' International
Cstar,
I haven't seen the 2005 models yet, but I justed picked up the 2004 model last week. I can't say that I am the resident expert on the 28' model, however, I can tell you that it is a VERY nice unit. Especially, if you go with some of the upgrades.
We have two little ones and space is still not a problem. For whatever it's worth, we have been getting a lot of compliments on it already. From a design and functionality perspective, you will find that it strikes a nice balance.
Again, I haven't figured everything out yet, but it has already exceeded my initial expectations.

I was very impressed with the one I saw. Much more open and bright than any other. I like the floor plan and bedroom area. My only real concerns are towing and the lack of a gray water tank (oh yea, and price).
There are only two of us so physical size is not an issue.

I checked back with the dealer today. The 28' International is a 2005 model. He has 8 or 9 different 2005's in stock. Since they just opened this month and all their stock has been recently delivered, it stands to reason they would be 05's. The next time I go up I will check out some of the other models to see if I can spot the differences.
I wonder how long it will take to get new brochures out and updates for the website?

Corky,
You didn't by any chance snap any pics, did you?
I like the the idea of the skylights, but losing storage over the dinette concerns me a bit. Curious to see if the trade-off is worth it, or if they made up for it somewhere else.

Well, I now have a photo gallery. There are two pictures of the 2005 28' International.
I also noticed similar changes to the 25' International. New windows in a couple of places, but not replacing the cabinets, and skylights as an option.

It's hard to tell from the picture, but is that a window in the bathroom door?
If so, it looks like the skylight is placed directly over that area. That is a nice feature.

That is a frosted window in the bathroom door. The addition of the skylights and extra windows really brightens thing up. I saw a 25' International that has a skylight also. If I remember correctly it is a $350 option.
Has anyone had skylights before? Any additional maintenance or problems? I know they used to be a pain for normal house construction but they seem to have that all worked out now.

No skylights in mine, just 2 fan-tas-tic fans. One in bedroom and one up front.
I don't think I'd care for the windows over the dinette. Wouldn't the awning block them when it's open? Or are they above where the awning opens?

Another question. Has the wall between the galley and the couch been modified? I would think that if it was opened up, that would let a lot of light and ventilation in from the front side window on the road side.
Thanks,
Dennis

I see your point about the awning and the new windows. They would be somewhat blocked by the awning. I only saw the view with the awning retracted.
I really don't remember the wall area. I'll check that out next trip.

I don't know about the extra windows above the dinette; I would rather have the storage above me... that's how mine is set up.

2005 Ccd
Just ordered a 2005 28' International CCD. Some of the changes from prior years are: separate black/gray tanks, vista view windows, deleted the cabinets over the dinette, deleted the wall between the couch and galley, diamond plate in all of the exterior lockers/storage areas, external stereo speakers, skylight with shade over galley area, frosted porthole in bathroom door, oh ya, and a price increase of approx a few grand over last year. I ordered it this week and it's scheduled to arrive in August.
