1989 34’ Limited Resurrection
About a month ago, i came across an Advertising for a 34 Limited, that needed some TLC.
While talking to the previous (2nd) Owner i found out, the Camper had not been used, besides for some storage for about 8 years. He send me some (low Quality) pictures and a little description. He had laid new flooring in the fwd part and vinyl tile in the aft bedroom. He said it only needed cleaning, the toilet replaced and some of the interior re-assembled. It has solid floors and two dents up front..
Since i always wanted a 34, I decided to purchase it for a price i felt comfortable with... even though I’m in the middle of restoring a 48 liner ( http://www.airforums.com/forums/f59/...on-113774.html) and i do not have any time to work on another Airstream..
A friend of mine went and picked it up for me.
Well... i guess now i have some more work on my Plate:
The Camper arrived and the outside was as seen in the pictures.. so i was ok with it...the Inside however was a different story.. First it was very dirty and smelled, well shall i say unpleasant . So we parked it in the back Yard for now.
The next morning, when we opened the back door of the house, we already started to smell the camper.. yuk.. so , we had no other choice than to start cleaning.
All fabric was immediately removed and all curtains went straight into the washer. the mattresses went into the garbage.
Since the “new” flooring was a low quality laminate and done only up to the kitchen, we removed all flooring.. also the vinyl tile and placed it on the garbage pile.. All Cabinets needed to be thouroughly washed after vacuumed. We started scrubbing everything from ceiling down.
As for the subfloor, we found two spots up front that had been incorrect fixed, which i attended to the same day..
The rear bedroom will more than likely become a whole new subfloor.
I also removed the two from inside panels to pouch the dents out and i got to say it turned out ok....
alright... enough writing.. i will load up some pictures in the next post...

And here is where the project starts:
this is what i found, after removing the aft twin beds and the flooring...
I will be more than likely replace the entire aft floor section, so i do not have any issues for a while.

Thanks Guys for the Compliments..
Unfortunately this 34 will be a slow progress.. most interior work will be done with a lot of help from my wife, as i am still working on the 48 Liner as well.. Trying to get it together and the windows in...
I do plan however to pull this one to the CanOpener Rally in Januar, which means i got a lot of work ahead of me though...

I looked for it before and could not locate any. Contacted several Dealers to see if they had any NOS, to no avail.
I ended up making up my own theme
Real nice job on the dents in the front. Check your axles. I have a 93 34 limited and after i replaced the axles and went to 16 LT tires, i was able to raise it by 3"

I was looking around and seen 3-M Vinyl, you can buy online.. i might go that route. I do want to go back with the original Woodgrain look though..
on another question:
who has put a regular couch/ sofa up front ? My Goucho has some parts missing, which is not a problem for me, but it needs to be upholstered and this would be more expensive than buying a sofa or even a sleeper sofa. My only concern is the battery charger and the two batteries up front.
Any advice is as usual greatly appreciated.. especially on how the heck i get a couch into my Airstream

Our 1991 34's sofa is horribly uncomfortable. If/when I do anything it will be a recliner swap. How about ordering up some dry weather this weekend? We are at Davis Bayou in the 1963.

Well, I knew this is going to be a very slow project, as i am working also on my 48 Liner.
I had some citra strip left over and thought i might try a small spot on the outside...I got to say, this stuff works fast and its an easy Job. When i stripped my 66 trade wind years back, it took me forever.. must be some thinner or cheaper clear coat they used..
here some pictures.. now i got to buy a bunch of more stripper

Love your rear wrap around corner windows!
I stripped the clear coat of my 93 about 1 1/2 years ago and applied what some people call "snake oil" . Its called Sharkhide, a metal protectant.
Sharkhide
I do not sell the stuff, nor do I wish to get into any kind of argument about it, just want to share my own experience.
It is tricky to apply and requires safety gear for the application. I had to wipe it in long continuous sweeps and it is not anywhere close to a perfect finish , like the original clearcoat.
But, Lo and behold it has kept the aluminum from oxidizing and relatively nice looking with out the need of constant maintenance.

Thanks for that info. I will look it up. Did you do any polishing before you applied that sealer?

No, none. Just neutralized the stripper with Baking soda wash.
Btw , here is what I did to the 87 Motorhome, after i was not able to find the wood decal.

That's pretty neat. Did you polish the area before you put the stripe on ? Looks like a gold colored stripe..
