Vivian, easy peasy as they say. The Limited are cast aluminum letters that are rivet to the skin. I drilled out the rivets, ran the vinyl stripe, and then riveted them back on.
The re-stripe project involved removing the upper and lower 1" moldings all the way around, and all the rest of the trailer. Then I used Aircraft Stripper to dissolve the old vinyl, cleaned up the surfaces, and then applied the new vinyl stripe. It comes with an adhesive backing. And then put it all back together again.
Now back to Stefan's Limited. Gotta see how he bangs in that new subfloor in the back of his trailer. Big job!

well guys, my wife and i have been pretty busy the last couple of days.
we cleaned the frame, cleaned, straightened and painted the belly wraps and insulated the flooring.
I made me a paper template for both sides of the floor and cut it to size out of 3/4” ply. I beveled the edge and the installed it. the first side went in easy. the opposite side was a little tougher but i think still not too bad. Once both sides were in, i secured the floor to the c-channel with 1/4” elevator bolts, which i sat with trempro. the back has 5/16” bolts. Once perimeter bolts were done i drilled and tapped 1/4” machine screws into the frame in the inside. I did ended up and had to install a 1/2” filler down the center as i cut a little short .. but its all sealed .overall it went pretty good. we re-insulated and secured the walls in place.
Belly pan is back up and belt line trim is resealed and installed. I still got to finish riveting the inside panels and secure the bumper with new bolts...
now I’m wore out.. Luckily i can go back to my regular job tomorrow

I can see why you might be a bit tired. You got a lot done. You make partial subfloor installation sound easy. I think it is easier for those with a higher level of mechanical skills than I have.
I drilled 1/4" drain holes in the belly pan under the bumper storage hatch and all the way to the tank pan. That bumper hatch is not sealed and lets a lot of rain water into the "basement". When I dropped my rear belly pan, I must have had a gallon of water in there! And the fiberglass insulation was soaked and some of which was laying on the aluminum. I recommend let the water drain out.
You have the hose reels out of the trailer now. I wonder if you will re-install them? I removed mine as I had difficulty re-coiling cold hoses and power cords. When it's cold outside, the rewind springs just don't have enough force to wind the cord back up. There was a couple times where I thought I might be in a jam. I think even Limited owners wouldn't mind coiling up their own power cords and fresh water hoses, even on a rainy morning in the mud.
Just wondering what your plan might be.

Any advice is as usual greatly appreciated.. especially on how the heck i get a couch into my Airstream
|
We finally decided the original Gaucho HAD to go. We figured we could live without the "convert to a bed feature" and I headed out to find a suitable replacement. The tricky part isnt finding something that would fit in the space....it's finding something you can get through the Airstream door!
We found a leather sofa that was about 3" shorter in width than we needed, but it has over stuffed arms that fill the gap. It's a 3 seater and each side reclines with a protruding foot rest. On installation the frame was centered and pushed back till it rested up against the battery boxes (which sit a bit farther forward than the charger) The center of the couch doesnt recline so there are no issues with clearance or ventilation for the charger. and it's far enough forward to allow both the reclining ends to do their thing. The back is aprox. 6"taller than the Gaucho was, and the biggest "issue" is that it sits far enough forward that the Street side fold out table is now unusable. (not an issue for us, as we don't use it)
The real selling point was that the reclining backs and the center back section are all removable! This was key in getting it inside the Airstream! Most couches without removable backs just aren't going to fit through the 26" door opening. No matter which way you turn & rotate them. ((i speak from experience )

I actually plan on re-using the hose reel.Unfortunately i only have the water one.. I am missing the electric one.. maybe someone has one they want to get rid off ? I’m also missing the roller that goes with the electric reel.
Truxpin, i like to couch you put in.. it is about the style i am looking for, unless i find a set of nice recliners. but its got to be the brown leather though as well.. fits my idea with the theme in the camper.

well, i guess its time for an update.
As some of you know i have been working quiet a bit on the 48 Liner ( see 48 Liner Resurrection )
I finally could squeeze in some time to work on the limited.
We finished to install the subfloor and laid the final hardwood.
Once this was complete, i re-installed the water heater and the curb side bed.
i next made a new enclosure out of aluminum to house the shore power and water reel. i think it turned out pretty good... i just wish at this time, my camper came with a power reel.. anybody got a spare one?
for now I also installed the street side bed as well as hung all the now clean curtains..( thanks to my wife..)
i think overall she is coming together pretty good..
follow are some pictures

Really looking nice Stefan. Man, you have accomplished a lot in these last few weeks. Your Limited will be very nice. I made a wood enclosure for my hose reals, not near as nice as your aluminum one.
So is your Limited ready to go now?

No, it's way away from ready ... I still need to hook up the water heater, fix the water pump, replace quiet a few items on the propane , do all six brakes, fix some leaks, and finish decals and polish on the outside.. Oh and still Need a front couch and fix some interior items... Nothing major :-)

progress has been slow lately on the 34. I did manage it to repair some of the interior woodwork and did start to polish the exterior a little more. I also removed the main awning.. seems like the fwd arm spring is bad and the rear one is still good.. i will see once i disassemble. here some pictures of my polishing progress:

You might check with ZipDee, none of my awnings have dual springs, I think they only ever use springs only on the left side.

Polish, polish, polish! Brings back memories. I plan to go over mine this winter. Of course I'm not as ambitious as you are! I like the looks of the parametric windows in back. Mine doesn't have those. Although I'll bet the curtains are drawn 90% of the time. I don't understand Airstream putting a window in the bathroom, blinds always shut.
I should think a power cord reel would be available at a automotive tool supply house, like Tool Mart. You need one for at least 30 amp 115v cord (heavy). But I wouldn't think they are rare. Maybe you don't like the cost.

Thanks Vernon about the awning info . All I know is that the fwd part turns realy hard. So once I pull it apart I will see I guess :-)
David, I found some power reels online but they are pretty pricey . I was hoping to find a used one , somebody no longer uses :-)
Thanks

I cannot believe you are polishing 34'! But it looks amazing! If you run out of aluminum to polish, I have a mere 30' with your name on it.
It really looks great and I'm sorry you aren't going to make Canopener. I'd love to see it.

You can park your 30 ft right behind my 22 that I still got to polish as well .. I might get to it next year :-)
I kinda was hoping to make it to the canopener , but between my two campers and some update on my truck , I just won't make it. I believe I be ready to pull the 34 camping by end of March :-).

Hey submariner, you could open an Airstream polish business. I bet folks would pay a lot to get there Airstream looking like you Limited. I think I heard the going rate is $100 a linear foot. That's $3400 you owe yourself for your Limited. It is mindless work, something I can handle. I probably have 400 hours in mine, and another 25 or so every year to get the water spots and bird poo stains off it. I'm glad my Cyclo is a robust tool. I got some hours on it.

Well, Submariner, at least you didn't turn me down outright. I understand about Canopener, I only have the one trailer and the more done I think I am, the longer my to do list gets. It must be some oppositional law of aluminum.

I think you are way low at 100.- per foot to do a polish job.
To be honest, I do not like to polish..it's a nasty job. I rather stick with the resurrection of airstreams and find me a helper to do the polish part :-) .
