Do you own a 21' Sovereign?

Hi,

This is my first post or thread. I certaintly have gained a lot of information about Airstreams from reading your posts over the past years. Thank all of you that have posted. I own two Airstreams - a 1970 21' Globetrotter that I am repairing. Sound familiar. And I also have a 1992 21' Sovereign, Airstream's upgrade of the Globetrotter. I like both of these trailers a lot. I noticed that no one had ever posted in this category. I hate to see 92 Sovereign's left out so here's my questions.

I don't believe Airstream made a lot of 21' Sovereigns, does anyone know? Do you own a 21' Sovereign, if so where does she reside?

I'll go first - I own a 92 21' Sovereign and we are in Baton Rouge, La. (That's one). If you would like to see her pictures click here http://hamboblett.fileave.com/ .

I have a 94' 21 Sovereign that I absolutely love. It was a rescue and has all the bumps and bruises of it's past life but that doesn't bother me. Just like my dog, it's now loving us back for bringing it back to life. We have had it now for 3 years. We were very lucky when we got it that everything worked with a little TLC and excellent guidance provided here on the forums.

There is one other here on the forums which I believe is a 92' owned by Mookie. We have exchanged info..a funny story.. When I went to get it ready for camping I couldn't figure out what kind of grates went over the stove so I asked Mookie to send me a pic of his stove to try to figure things out...come to find out the grates that I thought were to roll the tires on to to keep them off the ground belonged on my stove! Gotta love the forums!

Like your extensive photo gallery...You have more rivets than me in yours and I guess I've been making my bed up the wrong way!

Happy Trails!
A

Thumbs up 21 Sovereign

Mine is a 1994. Had the coating problems of the 90s but other than that, alls well. Replaced the carpet(bird dogs, wine, friends, etc)with cork tiles. Much better!

Sovereign 21

I have a 1995 Sovereign 21,that makes 5 so far. We have a 2004 28ft CCD,the "SILVER SLEEPER" and we call the 21 "JUNIOR". With the Gas prices getting so high it looks like "JR" will be the trailer of choice. As you well know 3900 lbs is a lot easier to pull than 3 tons.We tow with a 06 Dodge Turbo Diesel ($4.39/gal) over kill for "JR" so we are looking for a small SUV or smaller truck (Gas) as a TV. I think the large Airstream, with the big diesel trucks are going to be a thing of the past and that Airstream will go back to its roots with small light weight trailers like the 21s. I think we are ahead of the game with "JR"

I see that you tow with a Honda Ridgeline,What is your experience with the Honda? Is it rear wheel drive ?How is it on gas, with and without trailer . Is your trailer a single axle or twin axle like the 21s. As you can tell I am considering Going to a more efficient TV.

The Honda has been extraordinary for us. We bought it new 04-05 because we need 4WD where we live and wanted a mid size truck with good towing capability. The Ridgeline was designed to tow up to 5000#. EPA rating is 15-20mpg. Most owners do better. We get 17 in town and 22 on road trips, if air is not needed, add another mpg. Towing we average about 16. Worst ever was 10.8 with a headwind going uphill at 9000'. Best was 18.3 with a tailwind. You do need to burn high test when towing for best performance but regular is fine for everyday use. Our trailer has one axle.

Selling my 21' Sovereign

I regret that I have to sell my 21' Sovereign. I'll be posting it in the classified section soon. But I hope to keep and finish my 21' Globetrotter. And of course I'll continue to read posts on the forum.

Selling Your 21 ???

Bob, is this the trailer you had at the Can Opener Rally at Top Sail Fla in Jan 08,if so it sure is a nice trailer. I can't believe you are selling it especially after you bragged so much about it at the rally, but i'm sure you must have good reasons. Are you selling your tow vehicle also? If i remember right it was a small Chevy S-10 or something like that.

We are new to the Forum. We joined because of the interest in 21-footers. Our 1993 21 has been all over the U.S. We ordered it new and it arrived on Christmas Eve 1992. It is all original and has been kept in apple-pie order. We tow with a full-sized van. Soon we will become full-timers. We full-timed in our 21 for a year and it was great, but now we are thinking of a motorhome and selling the 21 (with tears in our eyes).

Gas usage

We just took our 93 21' to Yellowstone and checked the milage coming back to Indiana. Over 1000 miles and pulled with a Chevy van that has a 5.3 engine and 3:73 rear gears we managed 14.4 MPG. To accomplish that we stayed under 63 MPH.

Mookie's 1992 21' Sovereign

We're currently in Palm Springs with our 21' Sovereign. This is our first trip since installing new laminate flooring, and reupholstering our sofa in faux snake (looks WAY better than it sounds). Love those 21's!!

Mookie, that interior looks great! Did you do the upholstery yourself, or did you have a shop do it? I was wondering what it takes to do that....

Mookie, that's one of the nicer Airstreams that I've seen. Love the interior and the 21's are especially nice.
