You are right. Every year Airstream can be polished. But when the metallurgy changed in the late 70's, the new skin won't shine to a mirror finish like the earlier ones. But they still look great polished.

Did you order the stainless insert from domestic for your fridge or just buy some material and cut it to size?
The previous owner of ours had a brand new fridge put in the AS two years ago, I'm not sure if the new one has larger doors or what... They put the wood panel from the old fridge on the new one, however the panels are about an inch too narrow! Seriously the wood just stops and you can see behind it for the last inch of both the fridge and freezer door!

It looks like crap!

Hamboblet stared this thread back when, i heard that he was putting his trailer up for sale. If anyone is interested in a 21, his is in really good shape,a lot better than the ones on ebay and the forum. If you are looking send him a private message and check it out.

I couldn't find ready made panels from Domestic or 3rd party manufacturers. I went to a local sheet metal shop. I removed the faux-wood inserts for the shop to use as templates. Stainless steel is sold like gold, i.e. by the pound so shop around. If a shop as enough lying around from an previous install, the price may not be very much. I didn't shop since I have a neighbor in the business and he had to order new steel. I think I paid $85 for both panels for top grade material. Also, depending on whether you like to use magnets on your refrigerator doors, stainless comes in magnetized and non-magnetized. So make sure to specify which you want. And you could also choose aluminum too.

The steel panels are much thinner than the original wood panels so I backed the panels with cardboard I had from a new box I had from a recent shipment.

Ok, that makes sense to make up the thickness.

I guess I'll just make them myself too. I own a large sheet metal shop and work with stainless all the time. Unfortunately it's all food grade 2B finish, not grained. I guess I can order a sheet and make a few sets in case someone else want a set.

We had custom panels cut and installed too -- ours are stamped stainless - not sure about the thickness/installation as we had Avalon RV do it as part of our renovation. The stainless wasn't terribly expensive and we've used it in several places on our Airstream included for reskinning the inside of the door. It comes in a lot of different patterns as well. I love that the pattern doesn't show fingerprints like the plain stainless does.

We have a 92 Sov 21 and want to place a tv on the wall, just inside of the entrance door. Its on the wall of the frig. We have seen tv mounted on this wall but do not know how they got the tv cable to that side. A plug in is on that side for power,so that is not a problem. How was the cable connecter thats on the street side moved to the curb side ? or how was the cable run over ?

While I don't own a 21' Sovereign, I do own two other Airstream products and your problem can be solved in the same way as it was on my Minuet. Assuming that you would like to upgrade to a "modern" batwing antenna, it is a fairly simple procedure to route the coax across the roof from the antenna to the refrigerator chimney where a small hole is drilled to pass the coax through (be sure to seal with vulkem or similar product) and into the refrigerator compartment . . . from there it is a fairly easy process to drill a small hole in the refrigerator cabinet and install a coax face plate assembly into which you can connect your television.

The same process may be followed keeping the original antenna, but you may need to mount a flat cable to coax converter (if your Sovereign pre-dates the installation of coax at the factory) as well as a signal splitter if you want to keep the stock television outlet functional.

Hi Beaubill - we renovated a Sovereign 21 and one of the thigs we did was mount a tv on that wall. We did, however have the wall replaced with a sturdier real oak wall stained to match the cabinets. We had all the cords/connections put behind the wall and even had a soundbar connected. That was mounted above the cabinets over the front windows and the cords snaked over inside the walls. We also replaced the antenna with an HD one. If you need more info let me know and I can ask the hubby.

Hello to all 21' Sovereign owners. I purchased a 21' from an 88 year old that should have stopped driving at 86. )) There are several dents and creases, some were tears thru the Aluminum. Anyone have thoughts on fixing dents and Tears?
Also my Heater does not work. Blows but no ignition. I anticipate it may be the igniter or Sail switch and have purchased them, yet to arive. Will take unit out when parts get here. Hydro Flame Model 8531-III

Yes, I have a 21' Sovereign. Currently it is suspended in the air while I finally get the new axles put underneath it. I had to repair the fresh water tank cover due to some road damage. Plans are to strip the carpet in favor of cork floors and fix other cosmetic issues throughout the unit. I already replaced the converter/charger with a PM4B-60 PowerMax PM4B-60 (60 Amp 4-Stage Converter/Charger). Still a lot to do but definitely not getting rid of this thing anytime soon.

We have upgraded our tow vehicle TO A DODGE SPRINTER, we are getting 17mpg at 55 to 60 mph and 15+mpg at 65 to 70 mph and in the mountains, Its our 2 bedroom unit or as some call it our Condo.The Sprinter is a 2006 with the 5 cyl Mercedes diesel. Boon docking in hot weather we can stay in the van with the a/c running off the generator and in cold weather we stay in the trailer with the furnace. Some times we hook up both units in a RV park that has both 50 & 30 amp svc ,this keeps our batteries charge,

By the way this is Hamboblett's old trailer that we bought from him. We have added a 29' TV, took out the stove and added a 2 buner closed cook top, and a microwave /convection oven below, we also changed out the sink to a 1 bowl unit. We also added a door to the bathroom door, that makes it more convenient.will post some pictures when we take them.

We use a microwave a lot more than the oven----where do you put one---here is our answer. We removed the 4 burner stove with an oven below and added a 2 burner cook top that closes flat for more counter space and we installed a convection microwave below. We also added a drawer below the MW to store frying pan and other items

Anney and I Tom, Castle Rock, Co. We purchased our 1995 , 21' Sovereign in February of this year. The AS was owned by a couple that parked it 5 years ago when he was 88. Bless the man he should have stopped 2 years before. There are the dents and tears to prove it. I drove it 35 mph to the tire store to replace all 4 tires. The interior is like 5 year old, even the curtains except for a few stains. I replaced the 2 roof vent covers, replaced the heater motor, and a couple access doors.
Next project is getting dents out. There are 2 tears on the road side that I will have to replace the skin or put patches over. I hear there is an 'artist' who makes patches if anyone knows his info? Enjoying the AS so far. and love the fact that it has 4 brakes and weighs only 39xx Pounds dry.

We have a 92 Sovereign 21 ft that we love. It came with the original table but no attachment. Can anyone describe / send photos of how the table attaches below the window? Our model has the sofa at the front. This table flips up to be used in front of the sofa. Many thanks in advance!

There is a ledge and frame with a slot the table hinge slides into.
The table folds down when not in use. there is space behind the table , when folded, to accommodate a folded chair.
We are picking up our Sovereign on Saturday as it is being repaired. A tree limb fell on it when we were camping in the Sierras. I'll take a picture on Saturday and email to you.
Ours also has the front couch.
