Gas & Pollution Detector?

Hey, any of you '85 owners have a "gas & pollution detector" in your trailer? Do you know anything about it? Our '85 25' Sovereign (and an '85 31' Sovereign I have seen) have such a unit about mid way up the wall across from the door over the credenza. It looks like a factory installed item. I can't remember if there was a brand name on the unit and the trailer is locked away in storage, so I can't go check at the moment. I know of an '86 Sovereign that does not have this alarm, but instead has an LP detector near the floor.

We got no paperwork about this detector when we got our trailer. It does not appear to be mentioned in the owners manual, nor have separate documentation. What does it detect? LP? CO (carbon monixide)? Smoke? Something else? How do I know if it works? Should I trust it?

20 years old I wouldn't trust it. Smoke, CO, all should be replaced way before that. Might be neat to keep as an oddity, but I wouldn't sleep soundly at night thinking it was on guard.

It would almost have to be a carbon monoxide detector. I agree that I would replace it with a new co/smoke detector. Mine has readouts on it and you can see the co levels go up when you are cooking. Its close to the furnace so if anything were to go wrong during the night at least it would wake me up.

Went to check the trailer out in it's storage location a few days ago. I looked at the alarm and it is a "BECO Gas and Polution Alarm". There was a rotary control switch with I think two settings (other than "off"). Pretty cryptic otherwise. Still no clear indication what it is supposed to detect.

Anyway, a search for "BECO" on the web turned up a lot of matches, but no clear indication if any of them are the right one that produced such alarms for RV's in 1985. Has anyone else ever heard of BECO?

Wasn't easy ... but I found the Baker Electronics Company (BECO) Model 5 Gas & Pollution Alarm Operating Instruction sheet. Also a list of their 'Authorized Service Centers'.

Aren't one owner units nice! Apparently I have a 'complete' Owners Manual.

Email me a fax # & I will send it to you. No fax??, reply & I'll scan & email the info, if necessary. I also have the warranty card blank if you want to submit it (Ha!)

I have also located a source for spare steel wheels (aluminum were substituted) and extra wheel covers if you need.

Hey, thanks. Unfortunately, I don't have a fax # at home and it's kind of tough to use the one at work, so I'd appreciate a emailed scan if that's not asking too much.

As for steel wheels I don't think I need any, but I guess I've got to take a good look at the ones on the trailer in the spring to see if they need some touch up, or worse, have significant rust issues (I hope not). As for wheel covers, a couple of ours are slightly dented but still presentable. If you know of some undamaged original equipment covers, I might have some interest, but to be truthful it's not a priority right now.
