So, I don't understand why In Europe brand new Airstream International 684 comes with 700kg rating rims and 185/60r15 94T (670kg weight rating) tires.

I don't have an answer for you... but I know the Eu AS have their wheels closer to the center of the trailer to lower the weight on the tongue. Maybe that shorter hitch to wheel length decreases the side load on the trailer in turns??? I forgot my physics long ago.

Maybe contact the guy in Germany that mods the American Airstreams for the EU and ask? I don't remember seeing any of his trailers with wheels bigger than 14 or 15".

I look at his website and found the same overlander with converted axles and it's stand on standard al-ko wheels with weight ratio 670kg.
I don't know how force in tight turn is bigger on rims than fricting between tyre and termac? It's normal when you hook for something like curb in thight turn than you break every wheel but in normal condition? Maybe i'm wrong but I still don't understand that.

I thinking about moving forward the axles to reduce weight - maybe still i'm wrong but if you moved it forward to reduce tonque weight - this weight must come somewhere - for wheels

I would not move the axles forward. If you move the axles forward, you will reduce the tongue weight, but will then increase the weight on the wheels. It is a simple moment arm problem. If the 700 kg rating is adequate for the Euopean Airstreams, I would say that it will be fine for yours as well.

A wheel rating should relate to the gross weight of the trailer applied to the wheels just as a tire rating does. The fact that the wheel stresses may be higher during tight turns should be a design factor in detemining the wheel rating. So, if the max weight of the Airstream is 8,400 lbs (2,000 kg) than I would say that a wheel rating of 500kg or more should be fine IMHO.

Congratulations!

Pawel,

Your trailer is looking fantastic! I love it! Does the leather have a stiff backing so you don't accidentally poke holes in it? And so you can install it with rivets? Really looks terrific. It looks so clean and smooth, and of course it will be much warmer to the touch in cold weather than alum.

Thank you so much for the pics and posts.

leather is glued directly to alu, It cover all old rivets holes, I drill new holes and leave rivets visible, now they look nice and clean.

Very clever, Pawel. It really looks wonderful. Good luck with the rest of the work!

You said you are working alone; are you working on it full-time or are you holding down a job, too? I can't believe how fast your reno is going....

As soon as she gets to enjoy camping in it and soak up the attention and compliments your trailer will inspire, she will be fine with it, trust me! You only have to stay alive until then!

I truly admire how fast you are moving on the work; I just wish I could start work by myself on ours. I've been collecting raw materials and utensils for the inside and my husband has started collecting the tools we'll need, but reading the forum really makes me impatient to get started.

Good luck and all the best!

Vivian

You did a bit of work, nice.

What is that going to be worth in Poland when you're all done?

How many others have you seen?

Excellent, Pawel! You've done such an amazing job. I love the interior finishes you have chosen, and the exterior is like a mirror. So beautiful!

Hi Mrgreen, Yes I received plates few day's ago, fortunately I did not have any problems with tech inspection.
Last stage of restoration takes lot of time - there are many of small things to do.

I never thinking about worth of this trailer ,
in Poland we have only 3 airstream trailers - mine and two others converted to bar.
