Hi Monah I haven't done any polishing for a few weeks and my rotator cuff is still troubling me and I have a knuckle that is a little out of whack so I know of what you speak.
BTW how's Malibu Barbie coming along? Any grandious plans for her?

Trying to think of something useful to suggest on such a strong handsome trailer project, all I keep thinking about is installing a hitch socket rebuild kit and confirming the safety chains' welds & break ratings, clips & hardware meet well the weight requirements. I look at a bent AS that fell off a hitch everyday...
"Time of use" pricing plan... Your rates are not harsh at all unless the delivery and fuel surtaxes etc. are ganging up on you. (5.9 ¢/kWh/ 8.9 ¢/kWh/10.7 ¢/kWh)
With weekends and holidays off-peak during both the Winter and Summer periods, and off-peak starting at 7pm I'd like to have your system, we're gouged 24/7!

Len well there are a lot of hidden "extra" charges. There is the delivery charge, then regulatory charges and the wonderful " Debt Reduction Charge". The original system was called "Ontario Hydro" and then spent money like it was water as a government body. The current "Hydro One" was saddled with that debt and they in turn are pasing it on to us.
When they first started talking about TOU pricing the rates were ($0.042/$0.076/$0.091) so you can see how much more it is now.
My last bill which was for two weeks in April. 11631 kw/h $844.81 or $0.0726 per kw/h. Add in all the other charges, $802.58 or $0.0690 per kw/h and the tax of $214.17 or $0.0184 per kw/h for a grand total of $1861.56 or $0.16 per kw/h.
Currently the provincial government is rebating 10% bringing the total to $1675.40 or $0.144 per kw/h but this rebate won't last and Hydro One will for sure raise the rates again. They have been raising them almost twice a year now.
No one on the TOU plan has seen a decrease in their bills even with using washers/dryers or dishwashers at off peak times.

You have summer??? We have about an average of 65 degrees each day for a high. I'm still waiting on summer.....

Hi Chris, I'm FINALLY ready to lift the shell. I went back and pulled up your photos of how you braced the shell before you lifted your shell. Now that you've gained the advantage of hindsight, would you brace the shell has heavily as you did? At the moment, I've only added a number fo 2x6s and a couple of 2x4s between the ribs (parallel to the axles) but nothing front to back or at an angle like you did.
Thanks,
Pete

Hi Pete the professional restorers will tell you that we DIY guys over brace the shell.
I guess that the angle pieces were not needed. I tied the whole bracing system together front to back and needed it because I was having trouble getting the jack under the lowest braces front and back. I had to start jacking from the braces across the wheel wells. Once the shell was up higher then I could jack from the lower braces. I did create a problem with the initial jacking. The ribs that the braces were attached to did not go all the way up the shell due to window placement and I actually popped some solid rivets in the shell which I had to replace.

Pete,
I just lifted my body up enough to be able to replace the sub-floor without having to entirely remove the body but the way that I braced the body should work for an entire removal too I think. It was also very simple to do. I used 2x4 members from side to side. I then used plywood strips lengthwise above the 2x4's along the sides. This gave the extra supported needed under windows and over the axles. I put the 2x4's high enough that the lengthwise strips could fit above the wheel wells. You can get an idea of what I mean if you look at the following photo that I posted here on the forum:
Remove_floor_09 - This shows 5/8" plywood length-wise supports. Photo Gallery
I attached the 2x4 members with wood screws through the body ribs. I attached the lengthwise members to the body ribs using self drilling sheet metal screws through the members into the body ribs.
One thing to keep in the back of your mind is that the entire Airstream body is not really all that heavy. On my 31' model my rough guess is that the entire body with windows in place and the AC unit still on top should still weigh in at less than 2000 lbs.
I hope that helps some...
Malcolm

Thanks guys... sounds like I haven't made any fatal mistakes YET.... :-)
I have my shell off now, and just need to get it jacked up another foot or so to clear the wheel wells. Posting links to some pics of the current condition over on my remodel thread now.
Really think that the shell with the A/C weights a ton? Don't tell my wife! She already has banned my son from entering the barn while "that beast is in the air"...
Thanks,
Pete

We have had our shell up and lifted since October 2010 and so let your wife know there are people in the same situation since a long, long time ago. The Albatross seems to be sitting comfortably so far. I am guessing it feels a little exposed without the frame and hanging out on some saw horses but that is the way it is. I would have thought we would be building by now but then that is, the rest of the story.
Good luck on yours.

So I guess you're just letting it air out for a while. It should smell mountain fresh by now.

ND had all of the mountains removed and straightened out. Mostly just some hills and valleys and a lot of prairie. It smells prairie fresh and remains a robin catcher. I have had to get some of them out when they fly up inside and then can't figure out how to get out by themselves. They are amazingly persistent about going in there. Robins in an Albatross???
At least they don't meet the same fate as the robins that get into our juneberry (saskatoons) bushes. Those end up on the wrong end of my husband's fury when he thinks about all the pies he could have eaten from the berries off of those bushes.

I had the trailer out today to get the door to the shop fixed. I took the opportunity to get the TAC logo and the VAP sticker on the back window. Once it's in the shop I can't get at the back at all.
The TAC logo looks great. Thanks Shawn.

Hiya Lance yeah I didn't even see him while I was taking the shot. That's my hired hand Dave. We were patiently waiting for the door guy to figure out why it wouldn't work after the new install.
To make a long story short I'm less than impressed with this door company. There service man doesn't really know what he is doing and had to call the office and the manufacturer several times before he got it working, and this was an exact part for part replacement.
I think he used to work for the same company that Sandy is having trouble with right now.

I'd like to say the guy I have hired would likely not be ambitious enough to go to Canada but one never knows. I think you are giving him a lot more credit than he deserves. He calls me everyday to tell me he really wants to come out, has this tooth problem, wants to build his business, do a good job, how he slept last night, what the dentist told him, how much pain he's in,etc. There is a reason I don't tell people my line of work because I don't want to hear all of their troubles every place I go. He doesn't know what I do for a living but somehow he thinks I am his counselor. I will have to check his passport and see if he's been going over the border secretly instead of showing up here to work .
Sad to say there are too many of those kinds of people out there but then I remind myself there are lots of the good kind too. I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt but this is going way past what I expected. I expect to be painting the Rookery loft around Christmas 2012 at this rate. Good thing I didn't plan any housewarming party. Too bad our son is moving back in two weeks and we won't have all the stuff cleared out of his old room. He might have to climb over boxes for awhile .
Good thing you got stickers....I am still waiting for my Air Forums stickers. Maybe my contractor guy will bring them out on Monday when he comes out to get back to work .

Outriggers?
Hi Chris!
If you've seen my recent post on my thread, you'll know I've finally gotten the frame out and clean up. Looks like I need two road side perforated outriggers and one curbside solid outrigger for right in front of the curbside wheels. Do you still have any outriggers you want to sell? If so, and it is cost effective to ship, maybe we can help each other out a bit.
I used the way-back time machine to go back and look at your frame pictures. Your original frame was very different from mine. I'll post some better pictures of the entire frame tomorrow so you can see what I mean. I can see now why they thought that half inch plywood would work.
I've really got to go back and read your entire thread again. I wasn't watching it while I was in Saudi last year while you were making all that progress. Glanced at your insulation photos... wow! Nice! You've really set the performance bar high!
Calling Inland RV tomorrow to discuss a few tings I'll need to continue... like new axles...
Thanks,
Peter

Beter late than never
One of my campers was taking pics while I was putting the chassis back under the shell. She just got around to giving them to me today so I thought I'd post them.

And the rest
There are a few more as well. The way she shot them it looks like a still pictoral as the chassis went back under the shell.

O.K. there's still more but that's it.
I promise the last of the chassis in shots.
