Just wanted to say "I liked this thread," and learned quite a bit. Thanks to all.

We are too old to climb up into a 2500, so we took a chance on a Ram 1500 EcoDiesel. So far, so good.

The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel and 8-speed transmission are a great power train for our Airstream. The transmission finds the gears it needs for up and down grades, very pleasant to drive on hilly terrain. We use a ProPride hitch for absolute stability in any weather, road or traffic condition. We have towed 4,000 miles cross country so far and it is a very comfortable combination. The fuel economy is remarkable.

I have a 30' Excella, GVWR 8300#. I pull it with a 1500 Ram ECODiesel. Pulls like a mule, drinks like a butterfly. I just returned from a camping trip in the mountains of East Tennessee. Great trip, got about 14 mpg. Life is good.
