sofa replacement for 92 Excella

I am dreaming of replacing or re-upholstering the front jack knife couch in our 92 Excella Classic, as the bed is just short of torturous... have you done this, and what model actually fit?
I have talked to Airstream, and they most politely sent me back to my local dealer, who said I should talk to Airstream- so AS was nice and said the coach is not the current 'wide' body but a 'narrow' body (unlike me) so a new couch is not an option from them, at least if I want it to fit.
I can't decide if a flexsteel couch in a jack knife model is an option, as I like the drawers underneath for extra storage, and the arm rests are different from what is there now. Is the jack knife style the only one that would fit?
I want it to look right- not too tall, and fit the space.
I also am wondering if the leather is worth the cost with kids and dogs.
Can re-upholstery be as good as a new one?

You could re-upholster it by changing out the foam and material. You have lots of choices in newer foam available and, material?
Leather is an excellent option.
What's wrong with house training the kids and dogs now?
As far as the Jackson Center is concerned, I bet you monies, if you rode up in your 1992 Excella, they'd change it out for you~

I do wonder if a new flexsteel would sit over the batteries that are housed under the couch. I would lean toward reupholstery but am not sure I can find a shop that I can trust to do it well. Although it would not take much of anything to make the couch better for sleeping!
