Update on Running Gear.....

Hello Experts,

I want to update you all on this (hopefully fixed) issue.

I took the truck/trailer to the tire store to have the wheels checked (tread depth, roundness, air pressure, balance, etc.) and have the Centramatic Balancers installed.

One of the tires was perfect, the other 3 were out of balance - off from what was on the wheel - one quite significantly (went from 1.50 weight out of balance to 4.50 oz to balance it). (I have suspected all along that a wheel threw off a weight on our trip home)

The air pressure in the AS was good, the front end of the truck was low on both sides. The tread depth was pretty even - wearing 1/32 different on both the inner and outer treads on the curb side (equal on both tires) - street side depth measurements were all the same. (9/32)

So that's the story - I'll be on the road again in a week - short trip - only about 100-150 miles.....I'm going to continue to monitor the damage to make sure it doesn't get worse.

I have all the products to fix the cracked wheel well cover now. Just need to DO IT!

Liz,

You could move those Yorkies around to help with the tongue weight.

Not sure if you got the message about the alumninum tape but they sell a thicker tape at auto part stores for auto body repair in 4 inch rolls and is much better for doing the repairs you are discussing Cost is much less too

Possible Reason Found

Hello You Wonderful Experts,

Well, I think I might have found the reason for the wall separation. The floor on that side (at least in the outside storage bin) is dust - totally rotten. I finally discovered this dark and ugly secret after being advised to go out with an ice pick. Yep, it's bad - the extent, I'm not sure. I'm going to pretend it's not there until after the camping season is over and then address it.

So, what do you think? Could it be the reason?

Also - the storage bin door has always been a hard-opener - I'm thinking because it's all sagging down.....

God! What else??????? Nothing, I'm praying.

Liz,

Is it WET and ugly?, could we get a pic of the area in relation the the cracked wheel well cover?
If it's literally "dust"...think termites.

Water can enter in one area and show in another.
I repaired a leak this Spring that soaked the floor of our rear storage, (above r/bumper) but also effected both side storage compartments.

Bob

Yes, I was being dramatic - WET AND UGLY is the exact description.

Besides the floor of the street side compartment, the piece (the one with the big hole in it) holding the bumper compartment on the street side looks like swiss cheese - curb side is ok. I'm afraid I'm going to find the outriggers are all a bunch of rust - might not be though.

I'm scared to see what the thing looks like under the belly skin. I'm going to wait until after camping season to get into it. I think the carpet/plastic stuff on top, is holding it all together. I just don't want to tear it up right now - got a week of camping in October of coming up.

Leaking

Oh yes Bob, it's leaking somewhere - I'm going to have to find it - the rear street side is all rotten just inside the door but I don't know to what extent. With luck it will be the gasket on the door - curb side is ok. Once I get the beds out, I'll have a better picture - going to wait on that though.
