Blue Exterior Stripe

Has anyone replaced the blue exterior decal on their Excella? Just wondering how hard it was to get the old crumpling one off and the new one on, or should I have one painted?

Vickie, I removed the two-tone blue stripe on our '89 Excella. I tried 3M adhesive remover / decal remover but had no luck. A heat gun and beveled pieces of nylon product 3/4" wide to 1.5" worked the best. I found these nylon strips in the flooring section of a ceramic tile store or HD. I think they were actually for room to room transition pcs. Anyhow, they worked. I finished up with an eraser wheel chucked into my electric drill. This is a body shop supply for removing decals, etc. Maybe that would work on your whole stripe - but it would be very slow. I tried stiff metal putty knives but they gouged too easily. Good luck. It is a LOT of work!

I think a lot depends on weather and UV exposure. My recently acquired 1991 Excella must have been stored and situated such that the right side received little sun, but the left side full on exposure. I own a 2550 psi pressure washer and it blasted the right side blue stripe off on large pieces but the left side was impossible to blast off. Removal of the adhesive was another story. It was Rustoleum "Aircraft Remover" to the rescue. That stuff is wicked but fairly easy to use if you are careful. I bought a 1 gallon can for $39 at Autozone and it was worth every penny. The best scrapers I found was the laminate countertop samples they give away at Lowe's and Home Depot. The laminate has a very sharp edge and will cut through the baked on striped.
