Any one else have a 1980?

Hello all,

This forum needs to be kick started now that I bought a 1980 excella II!

I am starting some repairs on this unit and was wondering about exterior number replacement and rear panels. Where do you guys find these? Any info I should know about this particular unit? Etc.etc. Thanks

Phil

Send a message via Yahoo to ALANSD
you mean the Airstream Club numbers? ( WBCCI) you can get them by joining the club, they will send you the same number if its not in use.
What rear panels? The curved sections are quite expensive, but if you search the Forums for "segments" you will find more info.

Thanks for the info, the panels that are damaged are the center top, and the streetside top rear. The po used 2 large screws to pull some of the denting out and these remain! I have a friend who is setting up his metal shop soon, he is really good being a metal sculpter and steel worker. We might make the panels or pull and roll the existing ones.

You won't pull and/or roll anything no matter how good your friend is. If they are creased much at all, you'll need new panels to replace them. Very expensive.

Good luck with your project.

I had a dent on the rear street side upper corner, it came out quickly with a bathroom plunger with only close inspection marks. A dent on the curb side upper corner will be more of a challenge. I will use suction cups first, but, at best, I know it will still show the mark of the striking object. I will most likely just do the best I can and move on... I am not looking for a "vintage show trailer," just one that looks pretty darn good and is dependably safe for exploring scenic treasures.

What I have from '80

All I have that I could offer you from 1980 is High School Graduation Ring. Obviously I didn't see the import that the final year offers, or I would have been far more involved. Sorry guys. Can't help on this one

Excella II

Cool, an Excella II. I was watching an ebay auction for the same year and size trailer as yours a couple years ago. It had mid twins and rear bath. The buyer paid over $10K at the time but the unit had been gone through by the factory. I contacted the buyer several months after the sale and they said they were really pleased with their purchase. I had a '77 Excella 500 31' at the time and wanted to go shorter. I found a really nice '86 Sovereign 25' side bath/rear corner bed and have been extremely pleased with it. While panel replacement can be expensive, I feel that it would be well worth it. Good luck.

Here is a link to "My" Dealer's site. They list the steps and they carry most if not all of the repair parts. They will ship. You will have to go to the Parts section and look under Airstream steps.

Hello,

In 1980, Airstream produced fewer than 100 Airstream trailers, due to the economy, fuel and the THOR purchasing Airstream from Beatrice Foods. 1980 was a very short production year for Airstream, most dealers had way too many 1979's on the lot and were not ordering the 1980 models this is why you will not see too many 1980's out there.

Just for comparison, in 1976 they produced roughly 6,000 trailers.

2006 2,200 trailers.
