Carpet replacement under slide out lounge

We just purchased a 2002 34 slide out lounge. We love everything about it, except for the Living Room carpet. We would prefer a hard surface such as hardwood or laminate.

Others have told us that the slide-out MUST have carpet to slide on. Can anyone confirm this? In any case, I assume the sofa would have to be unbolted from the slide to install new flooring under it?

Thanks for your help!

I asked at build time on my 2004 and was told by Jackson Center that a hard floor would be damaged by the rollers on the slide out. Something did change on later slides since they did have some with hard floors. My guess is that your slide is much like mine.

You can remove the drewer under the sofa and get deep enough to attach the carpet.

I have contacted Jackson Center about replacing the entire coach with the hardwood floor and they did not mention anything about the rollers damaging the floor. We are also going to replace the dinette and couch with ultra leather and they quoted us a price; again, no mention of the rollers. I know in later models the area where the slide would roll on was carpeted; don't know if this is the reason.

My 2004 has the rollers mounted on the floor, not on the slide. So the slide floats above the floor.

Big Ern: King beds are pretty rare - only in a few front bedroom classics. The 30 and 34 bedrooms are identical, with Queen beds, but if you could find twin beds you might be able to do a conversion.
