Barkingspider's New 2003 Classic Airstream - Woo Hoo!

Hi Everyone,

Had to post a couple pictures of the newest member of the family. It's a 2003 25' Classic with a queen bed.

History - The original owners purchased the trailer on May 31, 2004 from Manteca Trailer & Camper in Manteca, Ca. Subsequently I purchased it from them on August 22, 2005. They are a 70 year old couple that used it a few times and decided it just wasn't for them. Needless to say the trailer is in excellent condition and even has 9 months of the original factory warranty remaining!

The long, long drive - The trip to purchase the unit involved a drive from Austin, TX to Stockton, CA, approximately 3,500 miles round trip (most people would consider a drive this far to purchase a trailer absolutley nuts - but I'm sure some of you understand).

Joe

Congratulations

Good News!
If you do not mind some questions from an inquiring mind;
How did you locate the trailer?
How many trailers did you look at?
What did you do with the wreck?

Joe,

Trailer looks nice! Make sure you stay away from tractor trailers this time and vice versa! Where's the first trip going to be?

Located the trailer online. Only looked at a few. This one was such a good deal I had to move fast. The owners were "EXTREMELY" motivated to sell. Not to mention a buddy of mine (Gunnyusmc) happened to be in California at the time and volunteered to drive 800 miles round trip to look at it before I committed to the 3,500 mile drive and purchase. The first thing he said when he called me was "If you don't buy it I'm going to".

I still have the other trailer - but I hate to think of it as a wreck.

The insurance company and I should finalize our agreement tomorrow. I'll let you all know how that goes on the other thread once it's confirmed.

Already took the first trip. My wife, son & I took it to a campground called Koyote Ranch right outside of Kerrville, TX over labor day weekend. We really enjoyed ourselves and I can't say enough good things about the campground. Nestled right between Kerrville and Medina, TX smack dab in the hill country.

Joe -- Your recent experience makes this 'long way around' acquisition seem short compared to your earlier trials. Congrats!

Post Congrats!

Wow, that's a good ending to your quest. But you realize if the insurance settlement works out you could be a two-Airstream family! I really admire your restoration and hope it's worth restoring again.

Great choice

We loved our 25 Classic.

If I were you after your rear-ender, I would do the LED taillight conversion. No way anyone behind can fail to see those bright lights. I converted mine because I have long been fearful that the incandescants were not bright enough to jog someone behind out of their fog.

After seeing the totally blank zombie faces of the idiots plowing down the road with their cellphones glued to their ears...I seriously doubt that even a nuclear flash would catch their attention. We had a truck rear ended the other day...they were in the right lane running at the speed limit, the other car was running at least 20 over and ran into them...the excuse..."they must have pulled out in front of me"...

Before returning to graduate school, I was a firefighter/EMT. I can not begin to tell you how often people do not even notice an emergency vehicle runing lights and sirens RIGHT BEHIND them. Often, even the air horn, which believe me is impressive, did not over come the radio/cell phone/devil possesion ect preventing them from attending to driving. Its a shame that simple things like lighting changes can not make us safer, the truth is the weak link is the human and lack of appreciation of the danger involved.

Eau de Skunk?

Perhaps if people don't see how dangerous it is to tailgate we could get some kind of aerosol "eau de skunk" or other foul odor that could be actuated by a proximity warning device... I say let's stink em out! Of course a chute that dropped a bowling ball off of the roof of the A/S onto their hood might have promise too....

Or one of my favorite stories from a fellow answering service owner. Seems he'd taken the whole family out - two kids in the front seat with him, mom and infant in back. All of a sudden the child gave off the "loaded diaper" cry and mom matter-of-factly started to change the diaper. As it turned out, the load was positively thermonuclear and started etching the glass on the inside of the car. The two older children started retching and dad wasn't far behind. So dad yelled, "Roll it up and chuck it out the window, do it now!" Mom complied, and the diaper flew back and hit the following POLICE car right on the windshield! The cop immediately turned on his wipers and yellow-green sh** and paper pulp were spread EVERYWHERE.

The cop started to get out and give them a ticket, but was so grossed out by the smell he got back in his car and waved them off!

Now incorporate THAT in an anti-tailgating device!

congrats on the new rig!

here is an alterative way of dealing with tailgaters.... this guy has it pretty well figured out.

if a 40mm anti tank gun doesn't work then nothing will!

the pics were taken at the semi annual slimey crud motorcycle ride in october '03.
