2002 Classic 25' suspension?

I/We are new to TTring especially by Airstream

Can you explain the suspension system? Is/has it changed from prior years?

Does it involve torsion bars? Are those shock absorbers the best? Should I buy Bilsteins for my Airstream?

Holiday Rambler once had a different type of suspension...have forgotten what they called it....is this similar to Airstream?

I looked underneath and I don't seem to have axles...

Not exactly an engineer here What I see is tandem wheels and each side has two shocks. I cannot see what is across from the front set of wheels (holding tanks in the way) but the rear set has a square tublar (sp?) think it is hollow, bar across between the frame beams.

Hop over to www.inlandrv.com/tours/axle-plant Andy has lots of information regarding Henschen axle and a factory tour of the folks who make it. The only changes recently are the fact that the new Internationals are showing up without shock absorbers. Other than that the current suspension has been around for years. Airstream owned Henschen at one time but spun it off in recent years.

I know that along with Airstream, Holiday Rambler and Hi-Lo were other manufactures who used this axle.

Thank you for the website!

Thank you for that website, Jack. Good information to have; I like to know how "things" are put together.

I have ordered new axles for my Airstream. I will be traveling to Jackson Center to pick them up myself, in about 2 weeks. If I can I will take some pictures, if they allow it. I am also planning on visiting the factory, while I am in town.

We were just in OH (Chagrin, Brecksville, stayed at Jellystone in Mantua) in September. I wish I would have known then that we were getting an Airstream--would have gone down to Jackson Center and did a tour (or two).

Well worth your time. You gain a new appreciation for your trailer. I was quite surprised at the level of access they gave us. Not only were we able to talk to the workers, but we were allowed to climb in the trailers at various points in the construction process. I took my video cam and camera and walked away with lots of pictures.
