Lazarus, ARISE!!!! Restoration 1971 Sovereign
Okay, so it isn't 100% finished....darn rock guard is still on backorder from A/S, seams need to be sealed, trailer needs to be washed and Walbernized and the trim needs to be finished, but other than that, Lazarus is ready to rise from his deadly slumber. Here are some pics I took today. I helped Ron and Boota put on the 16' road-side awning, but I forgot to take pics of it....dummy me. Comments appreciated....by the way, this is what roughly $25,000 worth of restoration gets you.

Here are the rest of the pics. And before anyone asks, yes, we did check the ride height...everything is well within specs...the trailer was on jackstands for over 25 years, so the axles still have plenty of life in them.

Thanks, Rick. My goal for this trailer was to keep it original "looking", which is why I bought the entire galley from a gent in TX who was gutting his 71 Sovereign. Between his and mine, we were able to make one galley that is really nice. Finding original aluminum wheels was nice too. The Worthington aluminum tanks look really nice too. The flooring made my jaw drop, when I saw it this morning. The pictures do not do it justice. The upholstery is awesome and looks like something that A/S would have used back then. The upholsterer was so good that he made mattress covers and wall pads (the originals were missing) to match the sofa. There are still a few things which need to be finished, such as painting the rear area of the frame, getting matching walnut formica for the front of the fridge and finishing up a few window seals, but other than that, it's ready to roll for the WBCCI Turkey Rally this coming Friday.....I'm psyched!

So Frederic, when are you going to install the bowing alley? You know every Sovereign has one...
Seriously, it's looking good. Show us pics of the awning when you get some.

Becky,
HAHAHAHAHA, you mean do I have another 25K to spend? No, I don't. Right now, Lazarus is plenty big for the kids and me, but who knows? Maybe one day, when I actually have a single family home, and not a townhome, I might pick up a smaller A/S.

What a dynamite looking trailer. You've done a wonderful job. $25,000.00 Oh my gosh. I don't feel so bad with my little $3,000.00 offering to the Argosy god. By the way, be thankful you just did mundane things this week-end. I took my sister, who is legally blind, on a trip and someone wrecked my new Tundra. I bought it to pull the Argosy, so can I add the damage to my restoration totals?

Juel,
Jeez, I don't know what to say.....that totally sucks!!! I try to find a silver lining to every cloud, but you're gonna have to give me some time on this one. Believe me, I didn't intend on spending that much money, but what started out as, "I just want these things fixed" became, "Well, since it's apart, we might as well do it now, so it doesn't have to be done later" and, well, the rest is restoration history. I will say, though, that doing this was worth every penny; I just wish Sherri were here to see the end result. South Jersey RV has been phenominal; their craftsmen are indeed Masters of Airstream creations...everytime I think about the interior, I'm still blown away by all the work that went into it. I even got to work on it :-D ....I replaced the rusted phillips/flathead replacement screws on the screen door, with the original rivets that should have been there. While I was at it, I replaced the other rivets on the screen door, which were loose.
I do hope that all goes well with your insurance company, and that you get a new T/V.
Frederic
