We just bought a '71 Sovereign. We haven't picked it up yet. I didn't know much about it when we bought it. I've been reading alot lately. I hope we don't have too many of the serious problems. Many of the bathroom pieces are just that...in a bucket in the living room. And there's a hole, about 2 inches in diameter, in the front near the doorway. There's no cabinet door under the stove and a funky looking cutout to the right of the sink. The sofa is godawful ugly...was reupholstered and PO had restructured it to include those high puffy pillowback more popular in the 80's. Oh, and there's a dent in the outside rear...actually, two I think, one on either side. But, we're happy. It cost us $1500 and we thought we got a deal. Please, God, there's no serious axel or other hideously expensive repairs required. I know, we're naive. Wish us luck. At least we live in San Diego where we can work on it pretty much year round (the mountains, so it still gets cold). And my husband has been taking welding lessons and also has a tractor and I take upholstery classes. Okay, well, nice talking to you all. Thanks alot for all the posting help.

Just thought I would add my name to the ever growing list of '71 owners.
Mine is the rear bath, with double bed, and I purchased it in August of 2008.

The interior is in great shape, just dirty. I've spent hours and hours cleaning, and it is never enough.

I found my owner's manual on eBay. There is a fella in Canada that has scanned them, and puts the owner's manual and service manual together on one CD. I paid $20 plus shipping. The nice thing is that I can print the one or two pages I need for the day, and throw 'em in the burn pile when they get too dirty to read.

Coming soon will be a new front lounge.

Below is the Airstream at Ft. Knox with my truck in the foreground.

Then the subfloor getting a coat of polyurethane.

Last is the new water heater. Three and a half days to install with Paw's help.

Wow, been a while since I've seen this thread...after four years (almost) of looking at the interior of our Sovereign, Brooke and I decided to redo it again, this time by ourselves. The interior is getting spruced up to modern standards, i.e.: no more yellow/green counter and no more dark wood. I can't remember which post it was, but looking at the blue walls in the bathroom was really nice.

We want to change the colors of the walls, but the big question I have is how do you paint over the OEM plastic-like wallpaper material? Does it need to be scuffed, primed and then painted with a special paint?
