CAT Scale Numbers for 25' Safari

Since we took posession of our 25' Safari in mid February we've been trying to get everything in order for what we expect to be smooth sailing over the highways and byways of this country. Soooo...we loaded the TV/TT and headed for the scales with full propane, dog, wife, and 1/2 tank of fresh water.

I had set the DrawTite/Reece WD hitch to the wheelwell lip dimensions for a level TV and TT. Here are some numbers for anyone with a similar trailer who may find them of use:

TT and TV Individually:

Trailer Net = 6020# (1060# on the jack / 4960# on the tandem axles)

TV Net = 6480#

Hitched and level:

TV Steering Axle = 3260# (45%); TV Drive Axle = 3880# (55%)

Trailer Tandem axles= 5360#

Total Rig = 12500# (15000# GCVW allowed)

The weight tranfer from the TT to the TV totaled 660# (11%)

The wheelwell lip dimensions with the TV when settled just dropped by 1/2" in the front and 1" in the rear.

I have yet to weigh the TV's axles individually without the TT to pinpoint what % of the actual tongue weight (660#) is transfered to the rear axle. The Florida heavy rain this afternoon took care of that exercise. Next time.

This set up rides like a dream and it's easy to forget there's a trailer following me.

hi frank

welcome to the 'weighers and number gatherers' cult...

scale reading are a good thing!

basically this is a REPOST of the data from another recent thread, right?

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f464...ari-62530.html

looks like the process went well but what is needed before any meaningful feedback is posted...

are the UNhitched tv axle loads...

but you already know this.

the % values/ axle ratios posted are interesting

but we won't know if the front axle is BACK to baseline till it's weighed nekked.

i haven't looked up the new exp's ft/rr axle ratings (gawr) but knowing what % of that rating is in use might help...

or provide guidance related to axle/bearing/brake/tire maintenance...

don't forget to toss up some pix...

we LOVE looking at where those numbers live.

also does this exp' have independent rear sides (vs straight axle) and/or AUTO leveling as part of the package?

that info is useful too.

cheers

Hi 2air,

Yes, I reposted it just to get it to those who may have similar TT.

As soon as I can weigh the two axles on the TV I will show it here with all the details.

does the exp' have any AUTO leveling features?

there are silly notions posted here that w/d cannot work on those fancy vehicles...

look forward to your update!

cheers

My Expedition has independent rear suspension, trailer sway control and 3.73 rear axle. It also has the HD tow package. Air suspension is offered, but I opted out so I wouldn't have to deal with it while setting up the trailer. I'm getting 14 mpg ave while towing the 6000# trailer.
