Window Leak

Looking for opinion; 2013 AS recently purchased with 2,400 mi on it. Vehicle was first put into service 04 2014. I did pay AS for a warranty transfer.

After driving for several hours in heavy rain I noticed a considerable amount of water below the roadside front window made by CR Laurence. After a closer look I established that this window has leaked for quite a while.

I am told by dealer that the frame that holds the window is defective and AS will not warrant this because it is a (window) manufacturers defect and not an installation workmanship issue.

How die the frame that holds the glass get "defective"? Isn't it a bit a cheap shot?

Where exactly did it leak?

I had a curbside window leak (sliding door), at the top of the window frame and it was an issue with the seal between the door metal and window frame. Access (removal) to the sliding door curbside window is the easiest of the side windows. Road side window access/removal requires removal of the interior road side panel making it quite a process to fix and perhaps unpaletteable to the dealer thus blaming CR Laurence for a defect. Still, a crappy excuse. Time to find another dealer?

Your Airstream dealer is trying to get out of doing some paperwork.

I had a problem with my Atwood water heater right after I bought my Interstate. Airstream doesn't warrant the water heater; Atwood does. To get the water heater repaired, I took my Interstate back to the dealer, and THEY contacted Atwood and made arrangements to get reimbursed by Atwood for performing the warranty repair. It's not like I could go to my local Atwood dealer to get it fixed; there isn't one.

Your CR Laurence windows should be handled the same way. Your Airstream dealer should handle the legwork and paperwork to get the window repaired or replaced at CR Laurence's expense. After all, it's not like there is a local CR Laurence dealer you can take it to!

Well, that's a good question. The AS warranty information clearly states what IS NOT covered under their warranty. This list also contains wording "and other materials". So I guess the CR Laurence window is other material and would not be warranted for more than perhaps one year. So really the AS warranty is about worth the paper it is written on. Surely one can save the money for a transfer warranty.
