Want to see a Westfalia

My wife and I are interested in a Westfalia however we have never seen one or been in one. I have a Sprinter work van and the Westfalia looks like an ideal way to travel and explore.

We are in Roanoke Virginia and would be willing to drive a couple of hours to look at one if some was to let us look at theirs.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help us. This may be opening pandoras box!

What's a Westfalia? A European Camper, I suppose...

We're Airstream People here, for the most part...how about this:

Airstream, Inc :: Interstate Interstate

The westfalia was marketed in the states under the airstream brand for two years I think it was 04 05. In Europe it was called the Mercedes James Cook edition.

If you only need for one or two people they cannot be beat aside from modest tank/water capacities. Super high quality build interior.

Westfalia is a company in Germany that does (did?) camper van conversions. Most of the VW camper vans had this conversion and it was a good one. We've had 4 of them over 35 years, traveled all over the country. As we begain to spend more months traveling, we bought the Airstream. Truely miss the convenience and simplicity of the camper van.

The old VW's are still neat, but don't expect to find parts or mechanics readily available any more. The Sprinters may not have this issue.

According to Zack Woods in his article "Big Fans of the Small (Airstream) Westfalia" (Spring 2011 issue of Airstream Life), "“By most estimates, there were 192 Airstream Sprinter Westfalias imported into the United States [for only two years, 2005-2006], all based on the Mercedes Sprinter diesel van… The number of owners is small, but their passion for these very efficient and effectively designed campers is huge.”

If you like the concept, you might like to check out the Airstream Interstate and Airstream Avenue and read the article, "Fans of the Airstream Interstate".
