Tv antenna 2015 grand tour

The black round plastic thing wobbles and appears loose. Can't see where it tightens or is suppose to be that way.

Mine seemed like a miniature version of a Tilt-a-Whirl and IIRC, I turned it CW to tighten it. Since it's not here any longer, I can't verify it. If that doesn't work, look around and underneath it for any fasteners that can be tightened.

It Might Be Loose

Mine went MIA somewhere around Tucson AZ last year. Have been meaning to look at the replacement Airstream installed.

OK had the 8 foot stepladder out for another task so decided to take a look.

Antenna is wobbly and is held on by a pressure clip that doesnt hold it real secure. It can also spin but doing so would only result in twisitng the coax.

Yes, I encountered the clip Ron is talking about when I had to move the antenna to the top of my AC cover. I used a dremel cut off wheel to cut through both the plastic base and clip. It feels very loose but was very difficult to remove and the metal shaft is keyed to prevent rotation.

Does it need to wobble for a reason. Thinking of just wrapping some duct tape around the boom .

It doesn't need to wobble. My Winegard antenna has a tripod base instead of a pedestal base, and doesn't wobble at all. Until I saw the photos of the pedestal base, I didn't even know that some Interstates had one. Wonder when they made that change (which definitely wasn't an improvement)?

I think they made that change with the Grand Tour with the larger solar panel installed where the original antenna was located. The newer antenna is more in the middle of the roof.

They made the change for the 2015 Model year AIs and GTs.

You can add duct tape to stop the wobbling, not sure how long the tape would last, couple weeks or so depending on weather but IMO there is no reason to add the duct tape. The antenna may be wobbly but it is also very securely fixed.

I think Winegard discontinued the antenna we have on the pre-2015 Interstates. Too bad because it works great. I'm always amazed at how well it can pull in distant stations without the need to point it directionally.

Gorilla tape would be good for at least a year outside. Great stuff it is. (Apologies to Yoda)
