Trip to Acadia NP
Hi,
Anybody has any good advice for places to boondock/camp near Acadia NP? My plan is to spend a week there this Fall.
Please let me know....
Thanks

Hi
How late in the fall? ( = early September vs late November makes a pretty big difference up there)

A few years ago we stayed at the KOA there, the oceanside one. It was acceptable but crowded, in September. Just a short distance to great Lobster pounds.

We were there last year just after Labor Day week and Bar Harbor CG was 10% full and they said during Labor Day week it was 100% full. Great forested campground and you can walk through the woods to an ice cream place and a pub. From the CG you can catch the free Lands End shuttle which runs often through the park.
HIGHLY recommend staying at Schoodic CG in Acadia on the next peninsula over to the east. This CG looks like it was designed and built by Disney engineers. Top notch public bathrooms and grounds are immaculate. Met two other AI owners there too.

Check out Lamoine State Park. That's were we stay when visiting our friends who live in Bar Harbor.

Oceanside KOA
The Oceanside KOA worked well for us. We had a waterfront site. Definitely try to get one.

we just booked one (waterfront) last night for a fall trip. Kinda spendy for a back-in 30 amp/H20 and no BW, but after looking at the Google maps view grabbed it for 3 days. Thinking waterfront will be the EE ticket!

p.s. if you go to http://www.campgroundreviews.com/ to the map function, zoom in and you'll see about a dozen in the Mt Desert Island area, most of which are campgrounds vs a RV park and a little more reasonably priced.

If you have time, the Cape Breton Highlands National Park in Nova Scotia is another day or two drive but superior to Acadia in many ways.

We spent a week in Blackwood campground and found it to be so enjoyable and centrally located. There is a path to a spot on the rocks above the crashing waves-perfect for morning coffee! We plan to go back as soon as we can! LOVED the area and the wonderful friendly people of Bar Harbor. Enjoy your trip
