The Wet Bath Dilemma

We haven't used the shower in our bathroom yet. Can't come to terms with having to then wipe down the entire bathroom, including toilet and floor. Seems like a royal P.I.A..

We make do with wet wipes, and on our 5-nighter we showered at the campground mid-week. Really, this hasn't been a problem and we've stayed pretty clean and fresh-smelling!

Wondering what other Interstate owners do. Do you also avoid using the shower? Or do you have some great way to deal with drying everything off before the next person needs to use the toilet!

Thank you in advance for your suggestions and for what I'm sure will be some smart-ass comments...all are welcome!

Hi, this is exactly why I don't think I could own an RV with a wet bath.

I don't mind wiping the shower down after using it. I do mind the shower curtain wanting to become intimate with you as soon as you become wet.

We don't have a wet bath but we usually squeegee down our Flying Cloud shower and wipe it up a bit just to keep things clean and for moisture control in cool weather. Only takes a minute.

Not really a problem. We went x-country with four people and the last one to shower uses a silicone water blade and a small microfiber towel to wipe down the corners & curtain. I suppose we're used to it since we've always had class B vans.

I wax the walls and ceiling with Turtle Wax Ice in the spray bottle, about twice a year. Any water just beads up on the walls and rolls right down to the floor. I avoid waxing the floor; spray wax on a textured surface doesn't work so well, plus I don't want to make the floor slippery.

I got the idea from a book on sailboat maintenance.

Any residual moisture that sticks to the walls evaporates out easily under the influence of the bathroom exhaust fan, which is kept running 24/7 when I'm camping. The shower curtain is closed and left to dry naturally. If need be, the towel is taken outside (weather permitting) and hung on a magnetic towel bar stuck to the side of the van to dry.

We use campground showers when they are available, use the wet bath when they are not.

Liking to be clean and to smell nice, , a quick wash and rinse is a must for me. I am also one of those unfortunate people who sweat in warm and humid weather. When I can, I wash my hair outside with the outside shower or a solar shower.

The wet bath is a bit of a pain, but certainly better than nothing. We are grateful for it every time we use it.

We keep a hand towel just for wiping things down post-showers, and it does the job.

I wipe the entire interior down with pine sol in water at least once a week, which removes soap residue and water spots. It takes a couple of minutes, and is something you would do with a bathroom, regardless. A good time to do this is just as you are getting ready to dump your tanks.

If you are going to travel and live small, there are some concessions you make in exchange for all the advantages of space-economy.

It is all about attitude, folks. Try having a positive one, looking at the upside, being grateful and going with the flow.

It is a truly delightful way to travel, but you can't have everything.

Happiness is wanting what you have, not having what you want.

We use the same Wonder shower spray we use in the shower at home. It has a surfactant, detergent, and anti-bacterial action leaving the wet bath smelling and looking nice. It probably also helps that we have a filter on the incoming water line that takes most of the normal deposits out of the water.

I was worried about this before the fact. In practice, I take an on-board shower every morning. Even if a camp shower is available, I prefer our own. I wait until my wife is done with the bathroom. When done, I do a quick wipe down of the walls with a towel. I use paper towels for the floor and the toilet seat. By the time the bathroom is next needed, all is usually dry.

We use campground showers when available and clean. Other wise it's a "Navy" shower in the wet bath.

OK, so I shouldn't fear the wet bath when necessary. And then lots of paper towels to wipe down. Thanks for letting me know what y'all do.

Our old trailer had a wet bath. We used one of the synthetic car chamois to wipe it down. When they get dirty or smelly you can just run them through the wash. They do a better job of blotting up the water than a sponge and you don't have lots of paper towels to toss out.

You shouldn't fear it.

You will spend and waste money using paper towels. There are other good suggestions here.

We use the wet bath in our 16' Bambi all the time. No big deal at all!
We keep an Absorber chamois in there and use it. Some 303 waterproof spray on the shower curtains once a year keeps them doing their job and everything is good.
Think of it this way the toilet is always clean....

We spent a ridiculous sum replacing the tiny shower curtain earlier this year, but the good news was that this new one is made out of some synthetic, microfiber stuff that a) goes into the washing machine and comes out clean and b) dries in no time at all.

The old shower curtain was plastic, and washing it never did remove the mildew stains.

If one sewed, and had a machine, could probably buy an inexpensive shower curtain, cut it in half and make replacements to rotate as needed.
