Tempted to buy a Airstream Trailer

I have a 2014.5 Interstate.
It's great but....
Boy it would sure be nice to have more space for 2 adults and a 10 year old.
I already own a big truck. A Ford 350 Diesel Crew Cab.
So besides better gas mileage, more nimble, and maybe a bit classier, any other reasons why you went for an Interstate over a Airstream Trailer?

Get a Bambi and tow it behind your Interstate.

Then you can have 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. We are thinking of doing this for extended travel when we are on a trip for 8-10 months.

Sounds like you might want to look at a Class C RV.

We considered a trailer but chose an Interstate instead. We wanted a go anywhere vehicle and decided trailering would limit our mobility. If I were to tow with the Interstate I would probably buy a teardrop for the outdoor kitchen unless Airstream has such an offering.

Some of the older vintage layouts had lots of sitting and kitchen space and a very open feel.

Because I could store it at my apartment complex, but would have needed to rent storage for a trailer.

Agree with this, or get the airstream trailer. Interstates are not good campers for more than 2 people.

We have had our AI for almost 2 years now and love the mobility but the space gets a little cramped for 2 adults and an 85 pound lab. We are looking at a 28' class A or. 25/27' airstream international. Any advice or experiences?
Thanks

We traveled extensively for many years with camper vans before our Airstream trailers. We love the extra space of the trailer but really, really miss the mobility of the camper van.

I think going to a destination and staying awhile, trailer space is nice to have. If it's about touring the country, sightseeing, and moving about frequently, the van can't be beat.

My 2 cents; We have an 2013 AI and tow a 1965 17' Caravel...when we need the room. We have two Westies and use the Caravel as the base camper and sightsee with the AI. The advantage of the AI is to keep the dogs cool when we are not with them (e.g. shopping, etc), has a 12v refrigerator to keep drinks and food cold, plus a mobile bathroom (know what I mean). However, on ebay now is a 31' foot AS with slide out. IF I had a tow vehicle like yours, I could be convinced to go with the slideout!!! Just thinking!!!

Beaubill,

Nice rig,

How much does your trailer weigh?

Do you feel you have enough power on mountains with your Sprinter to pull it?

What year is the Sprinter?

We are thinking of doing this for exactly the reasons you cited....

Thanks,
Bugs

The trailer is a 1992 21ft Sovereign with a dry weight of 3,900 lbs. We looked at the Sport 22 and compared the 2, the 21ft is the smallest trailer that Airstream built with twin axel, it also has the same holding tanks as a 30. It has a large shower and a nice couch. Towing in the mountains is not a problem, we have been on Interstate 40 a number of times, you forget the trailer is back there. The mileage drops to 15 to 16 mpg. The Sprinter is a 2006 model 2500, what's nice is that it does have a generator and boondocking in hot weather is not a problem with a/c and we stay is the trailer in cold weather. If one of us get cranky we sleep in separate units. Most camp sites have a 30 & 50 plug in so both units can be hooked up. It's a good combo, also the sprinter is a good run around town vehicle and fits in parking places at Walmart etc.
