Step - Beeping

Hello All,

First month with our '02 Interstate. We initially had issues with the step failing to extend and retract and the dealer "lubricated and adjusted the contacts" and now it is going in and out properly. Our new issue is that it does not stop beeping after we turn the engine on.... Please note the step is not extended (goes in properly) so I am baffled as to why the beeping is happening? I did find after about 10 minutes of driving with the beeping that it stopped.

Does anyone have a schematic on the step by chance? Where are the contact points that cause it to go in/out? Are these the same that cause the "beeping" noise?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Check to see if it's not the awning warning that's beeping. Roll awning out a foot or so, then roll it back in, and see if the beeping stops.

The awning and the step are both wired to the same warning. So try to extend the awning a little and retract it immediately. Then see if the warning has gone away.

Same problem yesterday that resolved with awning extension and retract. Can also pull fuse for step/awning as some have had to do.

All,

Thank you very much for the replies. I didn't have any idea about the awning - made total sense.

Related, any idea which fuse it it?
Thx

The step and power awning fuse is located in the Chassis fuse panel under the driverís seat, position F-10.

Mine beeps every time I use the awning and I retract and drive away. During the drive my wife reaches down and hits the button again and it stops. Until I use it again.

If it's that sensitive to being marginally extended, you can try slightly bending the leaf on the microswitch on the aft end so it is not as sensitive to being out a 1/16". It's easy to see if you extend the awning about 6" or more.

I did it on mine and haven't had the problem since. But mine was going off when fully retracted also.

Too quick on the trigger....
Our AI sat all day with awning extended. Retracted it and heard a repeated beep from under the passenger seat 2nd row. Tried extending awning a couple times to no avail. Pulled F10 fuse...no joy. Started to go for the relay when my son-in-law says "Dude....its this...." holding our AED that goes on trips with us. Apparently it's battery was dying. He saved me a lot of aggravation and cursing 😆😆😆. Just glad he heard it! Next time I will remember to keep it simple.
