Not necessarily. The item that goes there might be in the brown bag.

BTW, I can't recall if mine has a slot like that or not.

After further review I think it is for whatever could be used to fit the Lugnuts. Whatever I have in the bag is only 19 mm and fits the spare tire lowering device. I have nothing that came with the vehicle that fits the Alcoa wheels. And I do know it's not the decorative nuts.

Is there a wrench that fits the Alcoa nuts without the decorative covers?

No wrench is packed. Your'e supposed to pry the covers off with your fingers. The edges of the caps have a little circular indent. Tried the finger method with no success.

I now carry a mid sized channel lock adjustable plier with the tips wrapped with green duct tape. Multipurpose too.

The one time I had to pry them off, I used a dental pick. It will fit the indent. But you have to be careful; dental picks are easy to break if you use them to pry something other than teeth.

Hmmm… Maybe you could bite the covers off?

Naïvely trusting that the question is not a joke…

If it doesn't fit the lug nuts and therefore isn't a lug wrench, then it might be for cranking the spare tire carrier up and down.

Protag,

Given your experience I would hardly call you naive. And yes it was not a joke. That wrench in the picture does fit the spare tire winch (19 mm) but I think with all the mods that Airstream makes they feel it doesn't work as well as the rachet handle and deep socket they provided. Still doesn't solve my no lug nut wrench problem.
