SiriusXM Service cost

Anyone tried to enable service on the SiriusXM module installed in the Interstate, only to find they are totally restricted by conditions and terms, and just one single package - the most expensive one of course?

The SiriusXM website lists several different packages and since I'm not full timing, thought the A La Carte option (50 stations of your own choosing) would suit us for the limited time we're in the RV.
But no, when you go through the subscription process, after it determines the model of the module Airstream have used, it offers me just one service - the everything plan plus internet listening. In other words - their most expensive plan!

Then if you read through the fine print, it says you get 3 months free, at the end of which you will be charged $18.99 for one month, and subsequently you will be charged at whatever rate is in operation at that time.
And if you decide to cancel, there's a cancellation fee if you don't subscribe to 6 or more consecutive months.

Seems like robbery to me. Anyone found a way to get a cheaper plan?

The way a lot of people do this is to pay the fees for 6 months and then call up to cancel. They'll send you to retention where you'll be catered to. I was paying over $50/mo for three radios and an internet subscription for over 5 years, and I got down to $25 for a year. Most people get offered a 6 month for $5 a month option... and for that, it's worth it.

Don't use it?

It came with my current company car. I used it for about 3 months, decided the money could be better spend buying music that I want. I currently have an MP3 player that I carry with me that has about 12 gigs of music on it. I also stream Pandora when I have a cell phone signal, if I get bored with what I have on the MP3 player.

I tried the service for six months about three years ago and then let it go-or so I thought. Started getting hounded two years later for money for alleged service after that, although the system wasn't even in the truck. Told them where they could go to get the money. They cajoled and threatened for about four months and then let it drop. I haven't heard from them since and they will NEVER hear from me again.

I have 2 radios with lifetime subscriptions.
Theymdon't offer that any more.
The 3rd radio is $130.00 per year.
I sure wish they still, sold lifetime subscriptions.
When I first got XM they offered 5 years for $500.00.
They won't evenndomthat any more.
I have thought about getting rid of it on the 3rd radio and listening to CD's or an mp3 player.

I have been a Sirius customer for about ten years. I like the service but the company itself is one of the most screwed up, painful to deal with companies I have ever dealt with in my life. They are not any different after the merger.

You can get a streamlined service which is mostly music and few other channels cheaper than all the channels. Dont give them your credit card number, they once billed me for three units (two of which I no longer had). Just pay the bill annually. if you do it monthly they try and stick you with a cheesy "invoice fee".

The best deal is to find an old Sirius "sportster" unit on ebay. They operate on an older frequency and from what I have been told they don't have a way to turn them off. I have a few friends that have them and they are still working subscription free years later.

Several years went by that SiriusXM would not send a bill.
After I got them to send a bill, they continued calling and sending letters after I had already paid the bill.
DirecTV is just as painful to deal with.
Customer service in Mexico or India.

If you want the service, call them, don't do it by mail or internet. They will routinely give you 50% off- but only if you ask.

I always let mine expire each year, about a month later they knock the price down by 50-75% if you let it lapse.

I call XM the day before it expires each year and tell them I'm cancelling unless they give me the promotion rate again. After taxes and fees, it's about $100/year. Been doing it for over ten years now.

I wouldn't be without my Sirius/XM (we have both...sigh...). I had to listen to some FM over the weekend in a friend's car (in a different area) and was like, "Ugh, you have to tune stations? What are these commercials?"

But, yeah, the company can do some annoying things, like when they kept trying to get me to reactivate a receiver in a car I'd sold. I can't believe that's the only package you can get - they probably are showing you their highest end package and making it harder to find the cheaper ones.

Never had an issue with our service at Sirius. We have three radios ($12.99, $9.99, $6.99) with a portable "home" unit that flies in the AS when we travel. The other two are in vehicles. Talk to a customer service rep. They've been helpful, though I've only ever needed to call to have a new radio added-in.

As an aside, if you have a portable unit, and it breaks, simply call Sirius XM for a free replacement.
