Shopping for a Class B, Airstream Interstate or other model

On various other threads, we've debated Airstream's well-known Class B market lead, as well as the pros and cons of its current design directions. Here's an all-in-one Class B market assessment of sorts, courtesy of our trip to the 2017 Houston RV Show.

You probably won't believe my choice for 2017 Class B Best Fit and Finish, but I have photos to back up my choice.

You probably will believe my choice for 2017 All-Around Best In Show.

The RoadTrek lifetime warranty would certainly be interesting to investigate since five years ago when I checked into them, they roughly cost about $1,000/year.

From what I've read on the forums, I'd steer clear of Class Bs based on the Promaster as besides being front wheel drive, they are displaying signs of unreliability and underpowered.

About the only way they could get R-32 factor insulation would be by using Yeti vacuum tech.

I imagine this is how a Yeti Class C+ would look:

It appeared that the warranty is offered by the local dealer DeMontrond, not by Road Trek. But of course Road Trek offers its own robust warranty to start with, and it's been discussed probably on Class B Forum about how the parties divvy up the warranty responsibilities. First three years, Roadtrek has to handle it, UNLESS it's a component that is warrantied individually by the manufacturer (such as a water heater).

Anyway, as I said in the post, it is necessary to read warranty fine print with any model and dealer.

One thing I noticed in the Regency without even thinking about insulation - it was more sound-deadening in there. I could perceive a difference. Many manufacturers are using the same mouse fur, so I don't think the surface coverings were the cause. I wondered if the insulation should be credited. Maybe it's not R32 but maybe it's more than a typical Class B.

Lifetime warranty

Our dealer, Camper Clinic II in Buda, offers the lifetime warranty with all new sales. It didn't apply to my used unit.

There is a 3rd party that issues the warranty through the dealer. You are required to appear for service once a year and the yearly cost is not exorbitant. I'm sure the 3rd party gets part of the fee each year to keep the warranty in effect. The service covers the usual items such as cleaning the refrigerator flue and lubing hinges. I think it is a good deal, especially for non-do-it-yourself types or folks that let these things slide.

I should have mentioned that the Camper Clinic lifetime warranty is free on any new unit purchased there. You can adhere to the yearly service requirement or just let it expire as you wish.
