I have a 2005 Interstate with 34,000 miles. drives good on smooth roads but thumps on seamed, cracked roads. it also sways on moderate wind days. it has frt spring stabilizer kit but the loud thumping on smooth seamed has me wondering if new shocks are needed? It seem the thumping is above rear axle and maybe the floor is not secured to frame? I notice 2 screw heads under flooring starting to come threw. tire pressure is 80lbs and hope some one might know what kind of shocks are the beast, and if the rubber air bag lift will help? It is a new purchase and need to get it corrected before a long trip. Thanks SKIPJAQUE
I have been running an '04 Sprinter as my service van for 6 years. First things I did on purchase were:
1. add Firestone Ride-Rite air bags to the rear axle
2. replace the OEM shocks with Bilstein shocks.
It's been riding great (155K miles) ever since.
The sway in windy conditions is due to the size and shape of the van body. Not a lot you can do there, but you might look at these: www.airtabs.com
