Service 'B' Due.. question
We r currently in Montreal. Getting message that Service B is due in 1800 miles.
I think we will drive about another 4000 miles before we get home. Wondering if we should find a sprinter dealer to do service while we r on road, or just wait until we get home. Not sure how critical it is to do exactly on time.
Thx for ur advice!

I've always had my services done 400-500 miles past when indicated by computer. I'm not sure about going over by 2,000 miles. Which service are you due for next? I had my 40,000 mile service done while on the road on Portland. The 40k service is a big one with filter and transmission fluid changes.

We will b at about 25,000 miles. It's prob normally done at 20,000 but we bought a demo with 4500 miles on it and they did a service for us when we bought it and reset interval. (Make sense?)

If it was me, I'd do the service 1800 miles early rather than doing it 2200 miles late.

I would do it now as well. Any where near Raleigh North Carolina? Great Mercedes dealer there.

Where are you going from Montreal on your way home to San Diego? One of the best Sprinter dealer service departments in USA is Sun Motor Cars in Mechnicsburg, PA.

If you're at the 20,000 mile service (sounds like you will only be about 500 miles over), then it's an oil/filter change and fuel filter change. Also rotate/balance the six wheels and front end alignment. If you notice the outer edge of the front tires wearing faster then have the camber set to the most negative side of the allowed range. IOW closer to vertical.
Also fill the DEF reservoir and change the cabin air filter.
If it's the 40,000 service then like Mike said, the tranny fluid and filter get changed along with the engine air filter and belt.
There's a whole host of maintenance checks and all of this is spelled out starting on page 11 of the Sprinter Maintenance Booklet that should be with the rest of the stuff that came w/ the van.

Nancy,
You can't ignore the service schedule, nor can you extend the mileage when you have it done. Once you reach the zero point for having the service done, your mileage counter will show negative, like -100, -200, etc. When you reach a certain point (this has changed with model year, but it was around -1000 miles on my '11 van), you will start to get a count down showing the number of engine starts that remain before the computer shuts the ignition and will not allow you to start the engine. Only a re-flash of the ECU done by Mercedes will re-set this lock-out.
I would highly suggest that you get the service done within the 1000 mile window after you have reached the zero level.

We all have opinions I guess.
Depends upon your route of
Travel. Seems like you could coordinate service enroute to your return home. A good Mercedes dealer such as the Sprinter/Mercedes dealer near Portland Maine yields a free C-Class loaner car and an opportunity to sample the fine restaurant and culture of Portland Maine and Portsmouth New Hampshire. Suggest Wentworth By the Sea hotel and Chauncey Creek Lobster Pound :-)

That didn't happen w/ mine on the 20,000 alert. I think that you may be thinking of the DEF refill alert. Now that one will shut you down if you don't fill it when it says to.

Neither my 2004 nor my 2014 Sprinter call for a front end alignment as part of routine service schedule. I believe that is an "as needed" item.

You're in luck, sort of. Since Schedule B service is not warranty work, you're not limited to going to a Mercedes Benz Sprinter dealer; you can also go to a Freightliner dealer to have the work done, and probably cheaper than at MB.
Check along and near your planned route for Freightliner dealers, and for Mercedes dealers that handle Sprinters. You're bound to find one.

Indeed, it doesn't even have to be a Sprinter-specific facility at all. This work is not rocket science. The problem is getting the proper fluids and filters on the road. If you are really worried, you could always take them with you, just in case.

Check with Sun Motors. I think they are open for service on Saturday.

It's not, I just had it done w/ the tire rotation to get the camber fixed.
My theory is that the alignment specs are for a Sprinter w/o the extra weight in the rear from the Airstream conversion which tends to raise the front end causing the camber to go more positive. This will wear the outer edge more which is what a lot of folks are seeing. Wished I had brought some camber bolts so I could have gotten closer to the negative side of the spec. Maybe next time.

Any Dodge dealer that's a former Sprinter dealer can also do the service.
Some truck stops have high bay truck wash facilities.

We're at Mercedes Benz in Knoxville, TN. Great people here. They're taking care of us. Doing our Service B, and checking out a couple other items. As luck would have it, in their customer lounge, they have a generous supply of my favorite candy...Peppermint Patties. And they have super fast wifi. I'm happy.

MB Knoxville is my home dealer😊. Got both bases covered there. MB Knoxville for chassis and Chilhowee RV (near airport) for the Airstream part.
And I agree...nice people😊
